Has anyone here dealt with Smith Bros. Restorations? Home of the GL clone

Has anyone here dealt with them on any level? I think they're up in Washington somewhere and I wouldn't mind paying them a visit one of these days. It looks like they do some quality work and are connected with many DOH alumni. I'm definitely not in the market for a General Lee clone but it looks like an interesting way to make a living. I wonder if they would do a regular restoration if you asked them to? As I understand it the owner of my body shop just sold them a 318 '69 to be converted to a GL clone. It's this turquoise one I took a pic of for my body shop thread.

I've talked to them a bunch of times.  I haven't done business with them personally but I've got some friends who have.  They're respected as honest guys in the GL hobby.

I do know that the hype about "specializing in GLs" is for real. I've gotten into discussions with them about specific DOH episodes, stunts, etc. The Smiths are indeed friends with the TV-series mechanics & drivers, and the crew of the 2005 "Dukes" movie even turned to them for advice on building the new batch of Generals right.

The cars that the Smiths build & sell aren't just stock Chargers with orange paint.  They're built just like an old GL prop car would have been done in the early 1980s, with some minor changes to make it more streetable & presentable.  The biggest "inaccuracy" in the Smith cars is that every panel doesn't have a 1/2-inch-thick layer of bondo on it.

I don't know whether they'll be interested in doing work on a non-GL Charger or not.  You'll have to ask them.

On the old board, there was the guy who went by "Stuntman".  I think he was the guy who had his T-boned more/less totaled out General restored by them. I never seen him here though.

Hey DodgeChargerGuy
Stuntman is still around, but extremely busy in his music studio and working 18 hour days on a movie. His GL was rebuilt by the Smith Bros, who did amazing work. That car rides and handles really well. Stuntman is a professional stunt driver, and I have ridden in the car while Stuntman puts it through its paces. Its AWESOME

I was right then. I remember the before and after pics and the work was quiet amazing. That would be cool to ride with him............ if I had a new pair of underwear to bring along :-[

I trust my own crazy driving, but have a hard time trusting the other guy won't make a OOOPS! ^-^

THE COLONEL

I've talked with them also, and have delt with them only for a plate for a push bar, but if I were doing anything, I would try to use them first.
