So while I was in biaroil Wyoming pulling a 68 charger out of a ravine   a guy aproached me at a gas station with my new ravine saved charger and told me he knows where another 68 is that someone tried to jump a short ravine. Said it was only 5 min out of town so I followed him out into the country down a dirt road to the ravine and sure enough there was 68 charger sunk into the ground.  Supposedly someone tried jumping this stream and didn't make it. Just from what I can see the car is smashed up pretty good. On my return route from north Dakota in 2 weeks I'm gonna see if I can dig to the Vin. May be a hemi car...never know. It will eat me till I found out what it is lol

Cncguy

I would love to know also. Might be cool to save what's left as a conversation piece.

Thats nuts! There is either a full or partial vin number (can't remember) stamped on the lip around the trunk opening. Might be easier than digging down to the dash.  :Twocents:

Here's the car I went for, it's actually really solid car with no rust in the floor, trunk, valance, back window, torsion support, rockers or frame rails. It's a 383 4bbl, 4 speed, 331 paint with white interior.

Another one of the 259 made in that configuration...?

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

You can add one more to that color configuration list:

I have a rolled 383-2bbl., 4-speed version (1 of 74) in 331 exterior, white vinyl top, white with red inserts interior per the fender tag.  Wayne Wooten commented that the particular interior combo is very rare in 1968 Chargers, let alone a 383-2bbl., 4-speed combination.  It is rough (roll damage mostly to the top), but will be restored in due time by me.  It only had 30,000 miles on it when it was rolled onto its top by the original owner and placed in a back 40 section of his land to sit for many years.  I call it the Cornhusker Charger due to the color combo....

How strange it must have been to walk up on a '68 charger in that scenario...it's like seeing a disarable fossil.

I know very little about fossils or archaeology. The word "disarable" could have been an animal that I hadn't heard about!

I dont have any pictures fortunately. I honestly didn't even know about it until earlier this week. My good friend from work is an old school mechanic and having alot more wisdom than I have, we often talk cars and engines. Well earlier this week I mentioned I am finally going to go after my 2 favorite cars. One being a 68 Fastback Mustang, although I settled on a 69. And the other car being a 68 or 69 Charger, which I told him I'm still looking for.

He then tells me about all the old mopars he had out at his home farm growing up. He bought a nice used 440 RT/SE for a few hundred dollars. By now it had a different engine and it needed new steering and had just some minor rust at the bottoms of the quarters.

Well after a few years of it sitting behind the barn with a few Challengers and 30s pickups, his dad decided he needed to fill this big ditch in. So he runs these cars over a couple times with his excavator and burries all these vehicles in this ditch where they reside to this very day. Im sorry I have no proof other than his word. But hes never fed me any bs before. And his expression when he told me was sincere. Its a pretty sickening story.

Im trying to convince him to let me do it. Id even donate a junk car to take its place. It would look good in my friends shop/museum next to his Nash station wagon that fell through the ice in the 60s and just got pulled out of the lake.

I'm gonna unearth it, try and make it run under its own power for car shows and such. The dirt has actually not done any real damage to the metal surprisingly. Would be funny to see at a show or even cruising down the road lol

VegasCharger

If you do, document the shit out of the unearthing. Take pics and make videos. If and when you were to get it road worthy the story leading up to it would be totally amazing. Take it to MATS, SF and present a video (maybe on a continuous loop) on a laptop or something with a bigger screen than a smart phone. This way people won't think that you're pitching them BS (not that you care) but it would be interesting.

Which 68 are you bringing back to Vegas with your trailer? The blue one? The 4 speed ravine one? Neither?

m going to bring the blue 68 back first, im already home now. i brought a 70 gtx back to do a bunch of metal too then take it back to north dakota

Dig it up. Dig it up. Dig it up.    Since the engine is still in the thing it definitely would be cool to see rolling under it's own power some day. I would love to take a porta power and just start rectifying all the major damage that way just to see how good I could get it by pushing everything out. Kinda like this old beat up quarter panel only on a bigger scale.

smithenhiven

Man that would be so cool if you dug that thing out of its grave and made it run again.  If it's beyond repair, I'd love to buy something like that as a piece of yard art.

TommyGun

Would be cool for sure. Do you know who owns the land? I mean can you just roll up and take it?
