2 months ago I bought a rolling shell 68 charger from a local guy. He had 8 other 1968 Chargers on his property so I looked at the others as well. I saw another 68 Charger sitting on a dam. Fortunately, it was on some cement blocks so it was not sitting in the dirt and I could look underneath it. It looked terrible at first glance but the frame rails and rockers are in great shape. I came to an agreement with the owner and bought it too. I've been champing at the bit to post pictures but but decided not to until it I picked it up (which I did just today). Im thinking this would be a perfect candidate for a pro-touring project. I didn't get a title with it but I can get one fairly easily. It need floor pans, quarters, and rear window corner patches but I'm happy with it.

I hope the rails are as nice as you say, I'd be skeptical myself.  Nice save though, can't wait to see it finished.

Save it!

It will be saved! I should have a title figured out by the end of the week
I removed the bent passenger front fender to confirm that the inner fender was in perfect shape. The fender was not damaged in a wreck but was damaged by a previous owner who moved the car around with a front loader

Nice find, glad you are able to save it! I guess that guy sure liked the 68's, huh? From the firewall forward, it appears to be in really good shape. :2thumbs:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

The previous owner never received a title with the car when he bought it 20 years ago so the charger didn't come with a title. I went through the process of applying for a title. The highway patrol crawled all over it and took several hours To inspect and make phone calls but they gave me the paperwork I needed to go to the courthouse and get a title so I can't complain.  :2thumbs:

it seems just will need the outershell, but structurally seems to be pretty much perfect!!!

Sometimes worths more to have a nice structure with original attaching points still in place and unrusted than a nice shell and have to deal correcting the unybody measurements replacing those pieces

Thanks for saving them more Charger on the road means more new parts and then it's easier maintain them speaking of which how much of the body do they reproduce ? Is it like a Ford Mustang or chevy camero where can build from all new parts or do u still need to get a donor car

Seems the inner roof structure has to be sourced at least.....

O well just hoping they did it make it easier and tempting to make a race car that if I wreck it I don't feel bad  :icon_smile_big:my charger I will not hard core race because it's 1969 oem and it would be sad to totall it out  :Twocents:don't have to worry  ;)I have no plans for building a camero or ford :eek2: in less its for the miss or kids  :icon_smile_cool:I'd like to race mopar or no car most days chevys are cheap Legos  ;D  :Twocents:

Build it to race. You have the perfect foundation for a race car. I built my Charger specifically to race starting with a car that wasn't much better.  I started with a one-legged, 318, rusted hulk. The transmission blew up when we unloaded it off the trailer!  Mopar purists can be a peculiar bunch - they might come after you with pitchforks & torches if you decided to cut up / race a pristine R/T!  ::)

Here is a pic from the first time I raced my car (coincidentally against my Dad's 1955 Chevy with a 454 big block). He has only beaten me to the end of the track once - when he "red-lighted" and left the line WAY too early.  (I still beat him if we want to be technical about it.) :hah:

Chargers dominated the streets / tracks when they were new - they can still hold their own 49 years later!

I like the pro-touring idea too (maybe a modern hemi / 6-speed)??

Keep us updated with your progress.

Suburban you're right I got mine car for driving but I like doing fun things with my cars  :2thumbs: so the toy part comes in at 2 place and in the long run it's probably cheaper to have full time toy like the rottensan were I just use a hammer or a welder and don't care if it's perfect to things I don't do panel beating and sowing ones cost me too much and the other one me wife said stop aka I can do better than u win I was learning how. My pro touring is basically   Aimed at a dealer feeling/ 70s for trans am racing i know  ;D it wouldn't pass tec. But I'd like to try and I can see dan gurney 44 / 77  Olympic car trying back in the my rims for example are to big to pass but close enough for tires to be miss printed as 15s 😏. New 6.3 nope if I had one maybe but I like other engines more ( like the 572 hemi ) the 6 speed shure but there $$$ and my auto is working so well  :icon_smile_big: I'd like to use a plc to shift or flappy paddle. I keep u guys u to date on my progress speaking of which Q for administrators / in the know ware do I start a build thread ? And how do post pictures of my work on it ? Thanks. Old gold 69 have u seen my car?? Or are poking at the red car ? I looked for body shops I saw 3 in the USA with " dons auto body "  :icon_smile_big:
