Lets see

1) They have a car that no one wants at least for the reserve.
2) It is a mangled wreck now that isn't worth the effort to fix, maybe
3) The chevy guys are beyond STUPID!
4) It had to cost some $$ for that Charger and getting it ready to jump
5) Not many people give a shit about the jump
6) Even less do with the money to buy it
7) Those dumbasses should have done what I said in my first post, if they HAD to jump a 69 Charger.
8) Now they gotta eat the loss..unless it was some tax write off angle.

I still hope they get diarrhea  but now for 2 weeks.[/color]

That "I blank the DOL thread" got locked up because it got to controversial. The pro DOL people would try to find flaws in my opinion. I stated that I didn't care much for the movie because it incourage's this type of behavior.

So did eBay pull the listing? Has anyone written back and asked them why not?
It's one thing to make noise; another to actually follow through.
Sixty-eights look great and the '69 is fine.
But before the General Lee there was me - Headrope.

It's another to read the posts.

The reserve was not met and another member posted a response from Ebay stating the car should have been in parts and accessories.

I did read the posts.
The eBay reply was written in present tense. It stated that the issue had been reported to the Trust and Safety team "to investigate and take appropriate action."
Not meeting reserve could have been when the auction was in one section of eBay before it was moved to another, if it was.

Considering the condition the car is in now. IF they re-list it, it won't qualify as a passenger vehicle because it's not driveable.

It would probably have to be listed as a parts car.

I don't know about in the US, but in the UK, a car that bent, while fixable to a good  body shop and someone with a lot of $$$ would be actually illegal to rebuild because of the stresses in the non damaged structural areas. I t would have to be certified scrapped, i.e the main body frame cut up into pieces and crushed. Don't see how you could sell it on Ebay as anything other than a few parts. Even so I wouldn't buy the engine for example...to much risk of damage in my opinion..
F****n tragic....... :icon_smile_dissapprove:

That HLPAG guy is probably bondoing it back together as we speak!

The sad thing is, you say that semi "in jest", but you probably aren't far off the mark....and some poor sod will buy it for $30k..... :flame:

Its a sad thing, that was a nice solid R/T. That body is really bent,I do not think even HLPAG has enough bondo to fix that one. I bet he will buy it,and rebody the numbers to one of his rust buckets.

They'll let you fix it here if you actually wanna put the money into it.  (That's the only positive news I can offer about this whole incident.)

There are very few rules about this sort of thing other than a basic state inspection in some of the states.  Most cars here get fixed fairly professionally during the first 5-10 years of their existence, when the car is still valuable and insured for a lot of money.  But when the cars become 16-year-old clunkers the work sometimes gets a lot shoddier.

It's basically a "buyer beware" system, although most shops are reasonably worried about getting prosecuted if their work breaks later on.

--------------------------------------------------------

Of course with old musclecars, there's still a lot more redundancy in the body structure than on newer cars.  Back in the 1960s the designers hadn't learned to squeeze out every unnessecary inch of metal in the structure yet and leave the whole thing feeling like a tin can.  The cars are a bit less likely to be ruined by a hit than newer cars.

And on the car in the pics, the beefy rollcage actually helped contain the damage away from the passenger cabin.  I was kinda surprised when I was looking at the car afterward.

The General Lee in the pictures is probably "fixable" if you frame-straightened the unibody, then professionally replaced the worst of the bent subframe rails by cutting/welding.  Of course most of the outer skin would have to go as well.

StuntMan

I'm not sure if anyone posted the actual video.

Here it is, in high resolution:

approx 18-20' high, and 145 feet in length.

Crazy Larry

the least those dumbasses could've done was remove the steel hood and put a fiberglass one on - those like any 2nd gen sheet metal are hard to find. But it wouldn't have been that hard to do - then he could relist the car with the original hood - as not involved in jump.

It takes a real 'gloid to organize something like this.

Actually, seriously..putting all emotion, and Charger worship aside....

That stunt sucked a$$.....The original Dukes series never jumped a Charger so badly that it landed nose first!
Presumably those clowns did the stunt for Kudos, but they don't get any if they can't make it look good....
It makes it a double failure.....and quadruply pointless....
I understand the stunt guys for Warner Bros. put almost a ton of concrete in the back of the General to stop that nose dive......surely all the punters who go to Dukefest want to see the car land on all four wheels like the pro stunt guys managed to do?
DOh!
Limey...

Remember though, that these guys were purposely trying to destroy the car to demonstrate their hate for all things Mopar.  Dukesfeast (sic) may be about money now, but it can be argued that the original people around that event liked the carand the series.  I don't think these Chebby clowns cared about any of that.

limey

SO how do the organisers of Dukes fest (presumably MOpar guys - or certainly Charger lovers) find themselves hiring CHebby clowns to trash a charger...??
This has probably all been covered in a different thread, but from where I'm sat at the other side of the Atlantic...it seems a little weird... ???
