Why are you guys going to kill another charger?  You have it on ebay to sell, why not just sell the thing to someone who will cherish it and not jump it!  I will never understand  your logic.  Go paint up a damn chevelle/malibu as a general lee and jump it.  Lord knows the charger will have a higher resale than that type of car any day. One question though, you really do not see anything wrong with jumping this car do you?  That is the extremely sad part.

here is the link for you to at least let them know how you feel.  it will not stop anything, but its better than sitting by and doing nothing methinks.

Some people are just plain jack asses when it comes to class.

What burns me is that grille and those fenders are so damn hard to come by.

And then they have the balls to list $5,000 as a starting price - like anyone in their right mind is going to bid $5,000 for some one in a thousand Discovery Channel documentary General Lee wreck.

The only way it will ever stop is if the stunt kills someone.
:rotz:

Shoot if somone died in the car they would raise the starting price to 6k :rotz:

exscuse my french but WHAT THE FUCK? a real 440-4peed r/t charger as a jump car? why not just use a beyond repair 318 junker?-MATT

I'd never hope someone to die just to save a car, thats about retarded.

Even then we have seen it on this board too many times, but this time the car is a little more than a 318 rustbucket.
If they were smart the RT would have been restored and sold and a 318 rust bucket used, but of course they are not.
Since all they want is money..5K for whatever is left after the jump..a complete RT original 4 speed car would fetch at least 25K and thats non matching numbers and after the jump umm no. But a 318 car well it would have made more sense.
What idiots and complete business loosers as they could have made out even better and turn close to 15K more than whatever they end up with.

Plus I hope they have EXTREME diarrhea for a week.

HHHAAAHHAAA!! :smilielol:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

This is just so lame. And you're right in that they cannot see what is wrong with it. Would be cool to raise the car 10 inches and strap them underneath it and do the jump. Then see how they feel.

The whole GL fan club is 100% against this thing and we've told them in no uncertain terms.

"Them" is a big Chevy race-car shop in Michican.  It's their Charger and their event.  Blame them.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Several fan club members even kicked around the idea of trying to offer him another Charger hulk in its place.  But the owner wants this one jumped and we can't talk him out of it.  The stunt guy thinks it's a shame too, but he'd rather jump it safely than let them hire an amateur (and possibly crash the car worse or hurt someone).

It sucks and there's nothing we can do about it.     >:(

Everyone seems to think the car will probably end up getting straightened out & restored even after this jump because of its value.  The car had been on Ebay for $35K a few months ago, and this Chevy shop bought it.  The car had been a Warner Bros publicity car since the early 1980s and was built from a '69 Dodge Charger R/T with a 440/4spd/Dana drivetrain.

My thoughts exactly! They say it's an original 440 4-spd/ dana 60 car!!! Why on earth would they want to jump it?!

Whelp..... There ya go! They bought it to destroy it because they most likely hate Mopars, and know it will piss people off. :brickwall: :RantExplode: :icon_smile_dissapprove:

I never said that I hope somebody dies to save a car, just making the point - that IS the only way they'll stop doing these ridiculous GL tribute jumps.

And if you've ever been to Mexico or swam in the Delaware River - death is a better way out than extreme diarrhea for a week. :o

Chris G.

Not much we can do to stop someone from doing what they want with their car. I know one thing that would make me happy, and that's no bids on the auction. It would send these guys a nice message that wrecking a Charger is just plain retarded. On the other hand, it's kinda hard to convince somebody who's married to their sister/cousin/wife/grandma.

ps- Did anyone notice this little quote? "This car will be jumped live on Saturday, April 29, 2006, at 2 P.M. by stuntmen James Smith, Robert Smit, Richard Cummings, Tom Sarmento and Scott Sarmento." Does this mean 5 seperate people are jumping the car?

Mike DC

I don't see the whole thing being any kind of money-maker.  I don't think the shop really expects it either.  I think they're Ebaying the wreck just to cotrol the losses more than anything.

------------------------------------------------------------

A wrecked GL makes a hell of an interesing paperwight when it's a 318 VIN with no solid metal.  I can see paying money for that to some extent, even though I can't see the amounts some of these cars have actually gone for.

But a real 440/4spd/Dana car is too valuable as a paperweight, and anybody wanting to restore it probably won't give a rat's ass about the "fame" of having been jumped.  (Step #1 in the resto is to straighten & erase any sign of all that damage.)

I think that wreck is gonna sell for only whatever it's worth as a stock R/T, minus the price of straightening it out & restoring it.

JUST ONE MORE REASON WHY I HATE THE DUKES OF HAZZARD..............

BECAUSE THEY INSPIRE DUMB ASS TURD EATERS TO DO THAT TO A PERFECTLY RESTORABLE 69 Charger

 :rotz:

Even a heavily rotted 318 Charger is too valuable to loose for my taste.  So what if its a small block?  Its still a CHARGER!  :flame:

Mine was a BB car originally, but I had a 318 in it for years and was very happy.  Now that I've put the BB back in and the price of gas has shot up like it has, I'm rethinking my decision.  :pity:

That car is way to nice to be jumped.  Friggin' tools...   :flame:

This is what I hate the most...The fact that this person is going to jump a rare charger, but the thing that really ticks me off, is that it gives haters more of an excuse to hate the DOH, and they probably don't care for the fans either.  Just like sterotyping, they assume everyone with a General Lee wants to jump/wreck their Chargers.  I hate the fact that these folks are going to wreck another charger.

You can paint them orange and slap a Confederate flag if you want to cruise, race, or have fun.  But when it comes to jumping or some stunt that is going to damage the car, either pick up a rot-box or find another type of car that looks similiar and is more easier to find.  In fact, wasn't there someone who made a General Lee out of a Coronet?  It looked really good and could of passed for a GL.

Crazy Larry

At least the Dukes of Hazzard movie - the stunt men and producers rushed out and purchased all sorts of Chargers (16 in total) and they used the most beaten down ones as jump cars. So they spent some money and fixed it up and jumped them to death - all the super nice ones were kept as show cars and for close-ups.

If it is for a discovery channel documentary then they are getting money to purchase the car anyways so why not just get a beaten down 318 with a rotted body - slap a shite-load of Bondo on the carcas - a quick paint job and there you go.

Same effect and you give a done-for Charger one last chance to shine. The R/T that they are using is the last thing they should be using out of respect for Dodge, Detroit, and the auto-history that they gave us.

What if the car flips and bounces off each end twice - during the resto, hardly any of the original sheet metal will be left on the car. That is what ticks me off about the whole thing - these Chevy guys think that it can be restored back to "original" condition. Depends on what you define as "original" when you can buy a 1969 Camaro part by part from Summit and build one from scratch - might look original but no where near.

The Ghoul

just my take on it....

There car, they can do what ever they want to it.
I am amazed at how worked up you guys get about it.
Yeah its a shame but its like being pissed at a super model for porking out. Who the hell am I to tell her what to do with something that his hers.

Mike DC

It's nuts.

Like I said, even the stunt guys aren't hot about wrecking this car.  Part of the reason they took the job was because if they didn't, then the shop was just gonna hire someone else who's less qualified.  They could have refused on principle and the car might have ended up front-flipping or killing spectators.
