The Dodge Charger is the most popular American vehicle among recent college graduates while also being the most popular vehicle overall at one of America's most prestigious public universities.

From https://www.torquenews.com/106/dodge-charger-most-popular-american-car-among-recent-college-grads

The folks from SwapLease.com have put together a list of the most popular vehicles among current college students and recent college graduates, looking at the vehicles that students are getting into and out of when in college and after. SwapLease.com is the leading automotive leasing company in the US, helping consumers find new vehicles for lease while also helping people get out of currently leased vehicles, so this company gets a great look at the world of automotive leasing from all sides.

Based on their information, SwapLease.com found that the Dodge Charger is the most popular American car for recent college graduates who are looking to get into a new vehicle, while also being the most popular vehicle at the University of Michigan.

Recent College Grads Love Premium Vehicles
According to SwapLease, recent college graduates are most likely to lease one of these five vehicles:
BMW 4 Series
Dodge Charger
Audi A5
Ford F-150
Lexus IS 250

While all of these vehicles have lower price trimlines, there is a clear trend here. The BMW 4 Series, the Audi A5 and the Lexus IS250 are all luxury models while both the Dodge Charger and the Ford F150 are among the more expensive American vehicles on the market today. The Charger and F150 are unique from the other three in the fact that they are not from foreign premium luxury brands, but the Dodge and Ford are also unique from the others in the fact that they are much larger vehicles.

The Audi A5 and BMW 4 Series are midsized 2-door cars and the Lexus IS250 is a compact sedan, but as you likely know, the Dodge Charger is a full sized sedan and the Ford F150 is a full sized pickup truck. It makes sense for recent college grads to buy a small luxury car, but why the Charger and F150?

Bad B-rad

I also just read an article that the new facelifted Dodge Charger is the best selling vehicle in this last two 1/4's.
I can't recall if that was best selling Dodge car or best selling American car. But now that the wife and I have a 2016 R/T we have noticed a ton of these cars on the road(more so the 2015/16/17 then the 11-14)
It could just be that they are awesome cars to drive,370HP and 25mpg on the highway, but I think the new Charger design is a real hit with young adults.
My wife likes the Challenger better, but two growing boys and a rottie, we need the four doors.
The only mistake I made with the 2016 R/T is I didn't get a Scat Pack. I really wish I had stuck to my guns and gotten one, but the wife fell in love with the color of the R/T we got.

Bmw?  Audi?  Lexus?  It's no wonder they can't payoff thier college loans.

This cracks me up...........

Uh no it does NOT make sense. Debt on top of debt. Have fun digging out of student loan debt along with your stupid luxury car debt for the next 10 years. Hope you land a descent paying job that you went to college for. Oh the horror stories I've read about this topic.

EDIT: I myself have NEVER had a car payment in my life.

When I was a college grad I ended picking up a new vehicle. It was an SUV rather than a sports car because I wanted one and because now I was in control of my own destiny. While I enjoyed sport driving the SUV covered all my other interests at that time which included Downhill Skiing, Mountain biking, Coin Op Arcade/video games, and motorcycling (among other things). It DID make sense to buy that vehicle. you could argue the new aspect however.

Did I have college debt? Yes. (I had much less debt than most because I worked part time/full time for most of my term at college. ) Did I need a new car? No, Did I want one? Yes. Was it debt on top of debt? Yes, Did it cause me issues with digging out of debt? No. I/we had all debt paid off 4yrs after I graduated. That includes my wife's debt, whom I married in that final year so that we could buy a house and start a family. (She had grad school debt too)

My point - It DOES/DID make sense for me. We need to stop making points based upon broad stereotypical statements. Is it easier, probably, but it ignores the real discussion. Yes, your stories are true and I know of them but I know of many more that didn't turn out that way. Train wrecks are unavoidable for some, but don't lump me into that please.

BTW - I commend you for never having a car payment. I have been able to buy a few cars outright but not all. It's not easy to do.

Yes this is true and I'm guilty of it. I just see more cases of the norm than the cases where an individual makes extreme efforts to knocking down the debt in a short amount of time such as you did. Or the rare cases where one would go thru college debt free. I do jump the gun mainly because one of my nephews just bought a new truck and he is in WAY over his head.
