Decode help on 383 engine ID pad

On my 383 id pad it reads like this:   E 383

                                                          1

That's it, that's all that is stamped anywhere on the pad, E=1969  383=383 eng size
but what is the "1"?
I have come across a ton of big block engine id pads over the years and some have a few numbers stamped under the year and engine size, and I was always able to find info to decode them, but having just the number 1  stamped all by itself is a new one for me, and none of any of my #'s books or anything on the net, come up with anything for just the # 1.

Unless it was the start of a date stamp that just never got finished, maybe lunch whistle blew and the guy put down the stamp and just forgot?
Any help would be welcome.
Thank you.

The 1 is part of an incomplete (or lightly stamped) assembly date. 1 wasn't used to denote a shift but 2 was.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I kind of thought it was incomplete or an "error", because most numbers or codes are e-z to decode.
Is this common, the incomplete/error/light stamp?

Lots of documented stamping errors at the engine plants.
