10.7:1 static on a stock cam on aluminum heads will run on 87 octane. Thats not an issue on your build. Skippinf off the cam is  a slang term for essentially the rough idle characteristics at off idle engine speeds. My 292 duration cam didnt "clean up" and smooth out until 2500 rpm.

A bit radical, but this is skipping off ghe cam. The max wedge doesnt clean up til almost 4000 rpm.

So do you think the cam I want to use is to small? What would you recommend? LikenIbsaid I was told I should run a size bigger a XR 286 HR who is a 236/242 @50 with 110 and 544 lift

If you run that hydraulic, then you might want to step down to the 280 you suggested. If you run the mechanical, stick with the 286. With mechanicals you have to take into account the lash when looking at the specs.

Yeah I've already ordered the hydraulic rollers from Trick Flow. I just want a good street/highway car with good characteristics and I can run on pump gas.  Thanks for the info. You guys already lost with me with lash count and all that fancy engine talk lol

I will have to look that 286hr grind up that comp reccomended you, if it is ground on a 110 lsa then it will probably suit your needs. It will definatly make more power then the smaller one. The 3.91s will keep your cruise rpm up above the cams lope rpms even on a 28" tire.

If it were mine, i would run it.
So with the 3.91 gears it wouldn't be to radical to drive on the streets?

I dont think so. Not even close to radical in my opinion.

The 286HR will be fine with that combo. I've heard that cam in a similarly built 440 and it sounded and performed quite well. Nice lope at idle with descent manners and very good throttle response.  :2thumbs:
