Finally got around to starting my charger up today for the first time.  I purchase from year one the engine harness already converted to 70 and up style ignition.  It utilizes the 4 prong ballast resistor.  Before the car even got fired up the blue feed wire to the alternator starting smoking.  We unplugged it and left the green hooked up.  The car finally fired up and ran sorta for a while, but eventualy with a extinguished carb fire we gave up.  Any advice.
thanks in advance.

the blue wire si the 12v feed wire , is the alt good , possible internal short?
why the carb fire , too much fuel / flooding , backfire or timing problem ?

Had the alternator checked.  It tested good, although it is only a 46amp auto zone alternator.  Fire was pretty much caused by timing and backfire.  Battery was too low to suck the flame back down carb.  I got ahold of year one about the harness and they had me call the manufacturer.  Going to have me send in the engine harness, ballast resistor and voltage regulator for testing to help isolate the problem.  Said they would replace the harness reguardless of whether it was their fault or mine.  Which was pretty cool.   Are you thinking it could be an underdash short of some sort?  If so I wouldnt know where to begin. ???

charge the battery first , correct the timing & see if it starts
