Drive shaft with counter weight, 1968?

Hi guys,
I am getting ready to move back east, hopefully within the next two years, so I have been sorting through my parts stash. I have a drive shaft that came out of a 1968 4-speed 440 Charger years ago, but it was a "put together" car, it had lots of mismatched parts on it. This drive shaft has a large counter weight or balance ring of some sort on the front of it, can anyone tell me if 1968 is the right application? It was between a 4-speed and an 8 3/4 rear if that helps, but the car was an automatic originally. I will attach a photo.

Thanks and T/Ake care,
Barry

thats called the inertia yoke, and my 68 had that on my drive shaft.........so i would say yes it is correct but if you try to have the drive shaft rebalanced, chance are they Will not be able to balance it with it on and they will proably have to re-shaft the drive line, thats what happened to mine, which was OK by me, I wasn't gonna worrier about it..........North West driveline, cause they couldn't balance it with the inertia on, pretty much rebuilt a drive line from one end to the other for $97.00 several years ago, I think thats a pretty good deal.......

P.S. the inertia yoke is in my '68 dodge servise manual for Charger/Coronet/Dart

Correct for a 4-speed car.
:iagree:
weird, my 68 is not a 4spd car it it had one on it.............I would think, and am no expert the length of the drive shaft it self would have to do with a auto or manual car.............

Strangely enough, my January built (St. Louis) 4-speed car has the Inertia Ring, but my June-built (Hamtramck) 4-speed car does not...   Both are 50-15/16" (50.96") long, and both are 3.25" diameter tubes.   I checked my books, and that length of driveshaft was only used on Coronets and Chargers from 1968 through 1971 on Dana60 Dodge B-Bodies.

Incidentally, the '69 service manual says the driveshafts are only supposed to be 3.00" diameter, but the parts book says 3.25".   That same service manual also calls for the Inertia Ring on all auto & 4-speed big-block B-bodies, and on 318/727 cars as well.   Most other possible B-Body drivetrain combo's got the "Internal Vibration Absorber", which was essentially a hunk of solid metal welded inside the driveshaft tube up near the transmission slip yoke.   That's what appears to be the case with the June-built car's driveshaft.   I wonder if they changed late in the model year to the style w/o the Inertia Ring?

Thanks for the info guys!

The next question, does anybody need one? I hate to throw stuff out if someone can use it. Free if you pay the postage from Alaska to you.   ;)

I have one that I pulled out of my '70.  It is for an 8-3/4 rear end car (auto or manual) with the ring.  Mine has a Dana60 which required a slightly shorter shaft.  I am in northern Indiana if interested.  Where are you located?
