Hey Guys!

I am rebuilding my holley carb right now as it was in a really bad shape...

As I removed the carb from the intake manifold I could see that the gasket which was used between carb and intake manifold DOES NOT cover the heat crossover thing (hope you understand what I mean)

Question: Is this correct? Or shall I get a gasket which also covers this or is it enough just to get the same gasket which was already in use?

Thanks for your help

is just fine. in fact you should get a spacer ( cardboard or phenolic ) between carb and manifold which won't get the central plane wall either

the setup gets.

carb
gasket
spacer
gasket
manifold

that is on stock TQs carbs from fact at least. All carb kits comes with these pieces

Hey Nacho!

Thanks for the confirmation!

Concerning the spacer...

Look at this picture there you should see the spacer with the gaskets so I assume one of the former owners already installed one...RIGHT?

I will have to check that later.... But thanks

Cheers Roland

PS: Please don't bother the linkage setup... It WAS all wrong... It is already fixed but no up-to-date picture yet... :-)

Well that's an aluminium spacer... is fine. Originally was phenolic or even cardboard. You can see them included on carb kits.

Here is a tq carb kit where you can see both gaskets AND the spacer. This is specifically cardboard. You can see is cardboard because the metallic bushings on bolt holes.

Note... I usually forget about the gaskets and just use the spacers ( phenolic one ). That's because TQ kits are becoming harder to find. What I use to replace the gasket is a thin fiber grease layer and works

If you are going to get a spacer for heat reasons, get a cool carb technologies spacer. Thinnest on the market and work great. My carb is cool to the touch on a 180 degree engine.

Thanks for your inputs guys!

My initial thought so far was to continue with the aluminium spacer as I did not face fuel boiling problems until today....
I already have the Holley Carb Rebuild Kit #37-119 and I would use the gaskets from there....

But Thanks for the hint concering the coolcarb technologies spacer... Will keep that in mind....

Right now I come to the point to rebuild and optimize/tune my carb.... I already dived in to read many forum entries as well as manuals as well as watching youtube videos concerning jets settings, power valve, acc-pump, nozzles etc.

For now I understand what each part is used for and how they coincident... but we will see...

Definitely more questions to come soon .... :-) Again thank you guys....

So proud of being part of this great forum here and thankful for every input...  :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

PS: By the way @Nacho: I am looking for a RPM tacho for my instrument cluster... It figured out that they are pretty hard to get... So can you point me into the right direction where to look/whom to ask... I don't like the Clock and I want it to be replaced by a stock RPM tacho

rollo1504

Another question guys please!

I have this Valley Pan with gaskets installed... I suppose this is not stock...

http://store.moparshop.de/Department/Intake-Gasket-BBM-361-383-400cui-blocked.html?listtype=search&searchparam=Intake%20Gasket%20BBM

Does this make sense to have it installed or better remove it?
And it says that the HeatCrossOver is blocked.... Good or not good....?

Just asking as I will start with the carb rebuild and then I will check/renew or remove (if you tell me to do) the Valley Pan and the gaskets also at that point...

Thanks in advance

Roland

Tach's are pretty easy to find, just need to find one with the correct redline for your engine and year car.

This is who restored mine and they have a tach and it is for a BB, good luck.

Heat crossover blocked is the one you want.

why is the one HE wants ?

manifold got the crossover! why you guys denies the chance to run a smooth stockish car with a nice warming process at first starting up with a choke fully operative? maybe Is not for race, but for use!

Don't missunderstand my post c00nhunterjoe, but I can't stand the mandatory need without know the car useage, just because you would do it on that way because meets your needs, but without know the actual user needs. Better if is asked firts I think getting the full picture and give the best option to suit the real needs.

...

about the question, factory never used gaskets. Valley pan is the gasket itself and FACTORY used the one with open access on valley pan. The sealed crossover access is intended for an aftermarket HiPo purpouse

Myself I love to run all the factory setup, no matter if getting some extra toys for the car, so I'd use the crossover passage for a nice warming up setup. Specially with the gas prices in Europe!!! less time warming up the engine/gas mixture up to get a nice idle, so less gas burnt. I DO IT in Venezuela where I can fill the the gas tank with what you pay for just 2 liters.

and my engine is a 451 stroker build up, edelbrock performer intake and TQ carb... with crossover in use and stock choke system. Stockish look on inner toys, not noticeable from outside untill you start up the engine. But Of course that was what I wished, something like a sleeper and even with AC working. Not saying is your need or wish, but thinking/giving another idea
