Is a full floating Strange 60 on a charger overkill when all you do is cruise?

I'm a big fan of the S60 rear end but only because of the adjustable carrier bearings. Full floating is way overkill for a street cruiser.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

What are you trying to do John ?  :shruggy:

you know me CDR overkill everything even if I don't need it, lol......

The price difference between the S60 and Dana 60 built from drdiff.com is 1 grand....the brakes I want from wildwood to match my front brakes are only on the strange rear end axle flange if I went with dana 60 I have to use their AERO calipers with the strange compelte rear end its a forged narrow superlite caliper which what my fronts are....its pure cosmetic is the sad part.....but im in this deep into the car aready I mind as well get what I want....even if its 1 grand increase vs the total cost I have into it already....

Drdiff does sell a dana 60 from strange, but its not a S60 rear end....S60 rear end is a different axle and a modified ford 9inch with helical coils for the diff.....and the S60 is a full floater.

To my knowledge, the full floating option is just that, an option. Unless you are in the 2,000 hp range, you dont need it.

after doing some research I can go to dana 60 and use the wildwood brake I want with the rotors I want......thank god it saves 1k or so.....gheesh...and I found out I can do a S60 differential with the dana as a upgrade over a Detroit locker or truetrac

sorry the highjack, but what the diff between the floating carrier and the regular ? sorry couldn't find any informative website about that and I don't understand  how or what makes a floating carrier

It's not the carrier that floats, it's the wheel bearing hubs. With full-floating hubs you can roll the car even with the axle shafts removed.

The Strange S60 can be purchased as a bare housing with or without traditional axle bearings; the full-floating feature is an option, not a standard feature on the S60. As I stated, the big difference between the S60 and any other Dana 60 is the adjustable carrier bearings....traditional Danas use shims to set the differential bearing location/preload (huge PITA) while the S60 has a threaded adjuster like the 8 3/4".

Full floating axles are like 3/4 & 1ton pickup truck rear axles.
