Well I've got a pretty little situation here...
For those who don't know it. I'm an army reservist in Canada and I've been trying to get on a police for for the past year.... Well during the winter last year when my applications for the police were closed and told to reapply I applied to go overseas to Afghanistan. Well to make a long story short  I  got lead on thinking I was going to be told I wasn't.

So now here I am  again ready to start reapplying to the police again and guess What I hear is coming up again... Next tour to Afghanistan... And as of now my unit has no volunteers. Which would virtually guarantee me a seat. But Ironically its just about time for me to reapply to the police. And I've been taking the apppropiate steps to better my application and made the right contacts so I feel pretty good about it this time..

So now I gotta make a choice. But gotta do it quickly because pre-training for this tour starts in august and they deploy in February.

I know the police are allways hiring but some times are better than others and this is one of them during this hiring spree. On that same note I'll probably wont get a chance to do Afghanistan if I get on the police and try to after. Plus the money id make on this tour it being my 2nd tour (first to Afghanistan) would allow me to put a bigger down payment on a house when I came back. But on that same note it might cost me my 24 dollar an hour civie job which I have until I get hired onto the police if they don't give me the time off....

Why couldn't it just worked out before either A getting on the police the first time or B getting on tour not C both at the same time  :icon_smile_sad:

Vic, the Police job is a lifelong career. Great benefits and descent pay. The sooner you get in, the sooner you can retire....don't procrastinate on this...trust me. Because of mandatory retirement at age 60 it's important to get started early so you get enough years in the plan to have a descent pension income. The promotional system is also largely seniority based so the longer you have on....the bettter the opportunities for advancement.  ;) Getting to the supervisory ranks enhances the retirement $$$ significantly....they use an average of your best five years to determine your pension allowance. The more you make at the end....the better the pension. You need to put in a good 30 yrs so get at it and get started !  :yesnod:

Go for the Police.  You can't guarantee anything when it comes to a tour.  You may go up to Pet and injure yourself on pre-training and not even get to go to the 'stan etc.
Like Ron said, it's a good idea to get your Career started as early as possible.
