Hi Mopar friends.

I've found a great deal on this mopar brand intake, but I'm not sure if it will fit under the hood of my '69 charger. Any comments?

It will fit, had one on my 68. You will probably have to play around with air cleaners to find one that fits. I ended up using a drop base air cleaner, with a 3/4" spacer and a 2 inch filter.

Thanks for the advice  :2thumbs:

What do you think the chances of the stock "440 magnum" air cleaner fitting?

That manifold is basically an Eddy Performer RPM.  A stock air cleaner will not fit.  I use a dropped base with a 3" element with no problems......

No way could I get this intake on my 440 in my '68, even with a drop base.  Best use play-doh to double check before shutting the hood.  Mancini Racing sells a nice drop base only for a 13" element.

Is your air cleaner the stock one WITH the drop base? Basically I'd just like to keep the air cleaner. Drop base works for me...

I hate to sound stupid but what are you guys taking about with a drop base? I also bought a MP dual plane which is the same as the RPM performer for my 440. Anybody have any pics?

rikubot

No worries mate it's the lower part of the air cleaner that positions the filter lower around the carb.

Mine is not the stock top cover.  I remember someone posting pictures of one on a drop base unit a couple of years ago.  I have no idea if he had to do some fabrication to make it work or not......

The right drop base and some creativity and you can make the 67 - 69 factory air cleaner lid work.

I remember seeing posts years ago where some say they used a Ford base plate with their stock Housing. I have tried searching for those posts to see which Ford base with no luck. Does anyone know anything about that?
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

The search engine on this site is completely useless. I have never had any luck at all with it.  :shruggy:

I just use google to search the site... use the link below & put a space between the URL & what you want to search for & hit search:

https://www.google.com/search?q=+site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.dodgecharger.com%2F&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

I bookmarked the search results before adding anything after the site URL in the search box... that way I can call it up & just type in what I'm looking for after the URL.

Thats beautiful!!!  Is that a drop pan you have to fit that mopar performance under the hood?  I recently bought a ford drop base so I can fit a larger air filter under the hood.

Thank you!  And yes it is-- I had no choice but to order a Ford drop-base air cleaner from summitracing just to use the base plate.  But it fits with just enough clearance on top of my Holley Ultra 750 double pumper (I'm also using the Holley "Street Dominator" intake manifold, NOT the edelbrock as it sits way too high).

I put a LOT of time into researching everything I did in my engine bay and I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have if they pop up.  I wanted my car to be as modern and reliable as possible without going the fuel injection route. I'll go that route if I ever decide to build a blown 440.

Or this?

That air cleaner is very similar to the dual snorkel that would have come on an A/C equipped B-body. Hard to tell from that pic.

No it won't work with a RPM.

There is a trick that might sneak it under the hood though. Ford Motor Sport has a drop base air cleaner that also uses a 13" filter. You can use the base plate under the factory top, essentially giving you an un-silenced air cleaner. That base is contoured to fit a 4150/60 Holley.

The catch is that the choke horn comes pretty close to the air cleaner and compromises air flow. It still might not buy you enough clearance for the very tall RPM (the snorkel tubes might hit). Furthermore, you will also have to relocate your ignition coil.

GreenMachine

Yes, the second post is what I remember, thanks. It looks like they thought it might not be enough for the RPM though.
