Through the first three months of 2017, the Dodge Charger leads all rear wheel drive sedans in sales and in terms of every rear wheel drive car sold in America – only the Ford Mustang has sold more units, and that is by a narrow margin, reports TorqueNews.com.

The Dodge Charger is often credited as being the quickest, fastest and most powerful gasoline-powered 4-door sedan in the world, but the automotive world seems to lose track of the fact that it is also one of the best-selling sedans in the US market. The Charger is the bestselling sedan and the bestselling car for both Dodge and FCA as a whole, but it is also the bestselling sedan with rear wheel drive in the US market. There are sedans sold in the US which outsell the Charger, but they are all either front wheel drive or all-wheel drive with a front-drive chassis – and they are all smaller.

In fact, the Dodge Charger is ranks second in sales among all rear wheel drive-based cars sold in America, with only the Ford Mustang - the world's bestselling sports car – edging it out by a narrow margin.

"with only the Ford Mustang - the world's bestselling sports car"..............hmmm.....that would depend on you definition of Sports Car. In my eyes that's GT car....a nice cruiser that happens to have a reasonably quick motor. Not sold as a sports car here....Porsche 911, Ferrari, F type Jag, McClaren 570, Nissan GTR..they are sports cars.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you !!

As the last man standing, I guess the Charger WOULD be the best selling volume RWD sedan as it is the ONLY one with a MSRP starting below $30,000.     Nothing else is really close.   The only other domestic offerings I can think of are the Chevy SS and Caddy ATS and CTS, all significantly more $$$ to buy in.   None of those are intended as a volume seller.   All the others are imports and certainly nothing in that price range.

Yeah the LX platform Charger is (relatively) cheap, has large rebates, and almost no competition in the rwd sedan segment (dollar for dollar).  I'd be surprised if it up didnt outsell the competition.

Not to mention, since the basic platform underneath it dates back to a late 90s E Class, the development costs have amortized themselves 10 times over by now. It's the modern day Crown Victoria in that regard. It is basically a licence to print money for FCA now.

Personally, I'd take a six speed manual Chevy SS if I wanted a modern rwd sedan. Too bad it's getting canned this year.
