I have the opportunity to purchase a pair to put on my builder motor. What do you all think?

way to much money, you would be way ahead with some 440source stealth heads, new & aluminum.

I appreciate the advice. I have a 440 out of an RV I want to build up and I have no clue where to start. I'll check out 440Source next

I personally like the 915 head.  They are the best factory head for building decent compression with quench.  But without full documentation on what parts are new, what work was done, and by whom, and when, they are $50 - $100 heads, IMO.  Smart money usually lands on the entry level aftermarket aluminum heads for both value and performance.

The add states that they do come with a set of roller rockers so the price doesn't seem that far out of line ?

I suppose it would depend on the quality of the roller rocker arms and their condition as well as the condition of the heads. The add does state that they (heads) were rebuilt and have 1000 miles on them. I would want to know what machining was done at that time and have receipts for that work.  :yesnod:

As BSB67 mentioned ; the 915's are descent heads for a mild street motor. It just depends on how much power you're looking to make  :scratchchin:

Unless they were done by a shop like........ well...... me...... where you can be sure they were done right, by someone who knows how to make them perform........ then that seems like too much money.

At least when you buy a set of entry level aluminum heads, you pretty much know what you're getting.

That makes total sense to me. The Stealth heads on 440 Source are $500 Per head right now with free shipping. Definitely looks like a better option for just a little more cash. Thanks for the advice guys. I really appreciate it. Not a lot of mopar guys in this town willing to help out. Most of them are just cocky rich dudes who probably don't even change their own oil.

LMAO....that is funny !

Time to order a set of Stealths and have them gone through by PRH. Then you can show the Rich dudes who's BOSS !  :punkrocka:

From your experience, what kind of price do you think I'm looking at to have a short block built out of my RV for 440? Nothing fancy just higher compression pistons and a more aggressive cam. It will be a street cruiser and I don't race. I got it to build for my Charger so I could run that instead of my HP block. I'd like to pull that one an go through it real well but still have something to drive in the meantime.

I'd be ecstatic if it made anything near 500 HP...

You should have no problem making 500hp....even with a mild cam. Here's a pretty basic build I helped with awhile back. Bill has a 6-pack on his 440 but you could make comparable numbers with a single 4bbl  :yesnod:

Machining costs vary depending on location and how much work you do in terms of assembly will affect the total bill. Is the crank in your spare 440 a cast or forged crank ?

I'd like to do as much of the work possible, but I also don't want it to implode the first time I run it, so I don't know how to balance that out. My 440 is out of a later 70s RV so it's the cast crank. I can fairly easily get a forged crank from a friend though. Not sure what he'd want for it but I was gonna offer $50

Is there a chunk out of the intake valve, 2nd from left? :shruggy:
Looks like more than 1000 miles on them to me... :Twocents:

Hard to tell from the low Rez picture but I see what you're talking about. Yeah, definitely looks like way more than 1000 miles with all that carbon

One more thing about 915 heads, if they came from a non HP 440, they had the smaller 1.60 exhaust valves. If they came off an HP 440, they'll have the larger 1.74 exhaust valves.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

Sublime/Sixpack

I like 915 heads (yes I'm old school), but I'd pass on these two.
