Hi guys,

Going to be installing the Ignitor on my points distributor tomorrow. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that had some advice. Black to neg on the coil and red to positive? I do have a ballast resistor, so I'm not sure which instructions to use...

Dual point?  I remember soldering a wire being the ballast resister so that looked correct from the outside, but flowed a full 12 volts behind it.  Other than that, yes, make your coil connections, and you may have to adjust timing a bit.

Nah it's a single point. I also just read that you can't run the factory tach off of the coil if you have this system. Have you heard anything about that?

Whether or not you need the ballast depends on the coil you use, if the coil primary resistance is 1.5 ohms or more you don't need the ballast. Best to use the recommended Pertronix coil.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I ended up just wiring it strait into the coil, left the ballast resistor wired in and hooked up the tachometer. Everything seems fine, except my vacuum advance was bad. Also, the Ignitor itself seems like it would need a pretty strong vacuum to move it. It was pretty tough just to advance it by hand...

Also I can't for the life of me find a matching vacuum advance for my distributor. Anyone have any ideas? Looked on mega, classic, year one, eBay, and rock auto  :brickwall:

and by "left" do you mean top or bottom one in the pic?  :icon_smile_big:

The picture appears straight up and down on my phone but its squished until you click the link. If the pic is oriented different for desktop users, I need the one that is touching my thumb. I hate the image hosting on this site!

I see the other one on Summit for $25. That one is out of the distributor to my late 70s RV 440

It's close but the pin that hooks up to inside of the distributor is offset in the wrong direction. I think the canister mounts in the opposite side of the distributor

I'm almost positive that the distributor isn't what came with the motor. It's an E440 hp block and the distributor was a one point style. The part number only brings up really expensive NOS stuff or exhaust tips for a motorcycle.

Also I am not sure which springs I should be running in my dist. Right now I have real lightweight springs. I'd like to get this vacuum advance figured out cuz I think my car would perform a lot better. I have found some literature online but most of it seems over my head...
