I think it looks great and I can't wait to watch it.  I think that it is the perfect way to show the person that Kirk became.  I think it will also fix a lot of what I thought was "wrong" with all the Treks which was not enough action.  My favorite trek is till Next Generation.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

Amen to that cartoon. I've been saying that stuff about Lucas for years.

Now if they could only pry the Star Trek franchise out of Roddenberry's cold dead hands and put it in the hands of a guy like Ronald D. Moore or Joss Whedon we'd all be in business. :2thumbs:

The Star Wars situation has amazed me.

There's so much dissatisfaction and demand for a GOOD new Star Wars movie or two.  The disappointing prequels left the air literally thick with it in the sci-fi/fantasy world.  I can't think of another example of such a blatantly profitable niche remaining uncovered by a mainstream franchise.

I would have thought sooner or later even George Lucas HIMSELF would look at the situation and think, "Well, I don't wanna make that kind SW movie, but it would probably rake in half a billion dollars.  Maybe I can find someone else to do it for me.  Maybe I can work it into some peripheral area of the main SW universe that's not too dear to me."

This is one direction they should have explored with the Star Trek franchise: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Section_31

"In the Star Trek fictional universe, Section 31 is the name of an unofficial intelligence and defense organization. It is presented as a special security operation, manned by United Federation of Planets citizens, that is not subject to the normal constraints of Starfleet ethical protocols.[1] The organization appears, or is mentioned, across eight episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine."

Could you imagine someone like Ronald Moore doing a TV show about Section 31? :2thumbs: You wouldn't be forced to operate within Roddenberry's utopian edicts because Section 31 doesn't operate within the Federatiuon's utopian edicts. I imagine the cast including a Jem'Hadar, a Cardassian, a couple humans of course and a Klingon, among others.

It's amazing how our history and Star Trek's history are similar in a few ways. A madman named "Khan" from the India/Pakistan area starts WWlll, then escapes the Earth in the 1990's...And here today in 2008, the world has a real nuclear weapons scientist named "Khan" from the Pakistan area. Our 2008 "Khan" has spread the word to the bad guys on how to build a nuke. That's wonderful.

In other ways we are way behind in the Star Trek timeline. All we have is a wore out old space shuttle, a big orbiting solar battery called the ISS space station (missing a tool bag by the way), and we can't even get back to the moon to dig for black rectangle monoliths, oops, wrong movie.

"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

Man, they don't make movies like that anymore.

They still make endings just as stupid and illogical, but nowaways they always try to present some half-assed attempt at a reason for the whole thing.  Back in the day Stanley Kubrick just said "F*ck it, I'm gonna eat this little piece of paper and then try to put the experience on the screen."
