Most of todays generation don't really know Kirk and Spock, they want action.  I don't see how Star Trek 90210 would be better.  Perhaps if they made a good movie with plot and good starship battles, it would do better.

The 1960s TV series with Kirk & Spock is the only ST series or movie that I can watch.  I'm just not a Trekkie by nature.

Those old episodes feel so much less like the other ST stuff . . . They feel less like a character drama (or even an action show) and more like a "Twilight Zone" or "Outer Limits" show in space.  They kinda remind me of the "X-Files" episodes (back when the plots of that show weren't totally centered on the conspiracy stuff).

Stupid obscure trivia related to Chargers:

Willie Shatner's stunt double on the 1960s ST series was a guy named Paul Baxley.

A decade later, Paul Baxley was responsible for the entire stunt department of the "Dukes of Hazzard" series.  Hiring/firing/managing the whole stunt team & cameramen, overseeing & co-ordinating the stunt/FX shots, actually directing most of the footage . . .  the works.

Why not? It sounds kinda cool. I was hoping for a reunion flick or TV movie at least to finally wrap up Lost in Space & see the Jupiter 2 either home or Alpa Centauri, but with the deaths of Irwin Allen & Guy Williams years ago, it kind of put that on the back burner. When the 1998 LIS movie (yea, sucked) came out, they started planning again, with the remaining cast (Kevin Burns I think was going to do it) but when Dr. Smith (Jonathan Harris) died recently it looks like they will be adrift in space forever now. They were even talking about doing it fairly serious (like the early B&W 60's episodes) Yea, I'm kind of a nerd, but I think a new Trek flick with the old charaters would be fun...We dont always have to see new ideas, entertainment is all about re-hashing (& it's always good to see familiar characters).. :yesnod:

This would be Kirk and Spock, before "Star Trek" as in when they were in the academy.  Would be new actors and such.

It didn't really work with 'Enterprise' where they predated Kirk's Enterprise but hey, if they think it'll make money they'll do it.

As my father would say "Can't wait to miss that"
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

I like Star Trek, I always hated prequils, but i watched Enterprise, and I actuly liked it. it wasn't the best show, but it was worth watching. I think that this movie could be really good. They could smooth over some of the bumps that Enterprise caused in the Star Trek time lime. I still hate prequils, and i'm not happy that the decided to a prequil, but there is a chance it could be good. It is going to be dicrected by the guy who is making Lost. and I love Lost. so I'm still hopping for the best, but bracing for the worst.

I think the ST franchise has a deeper problem. Roddenberry was too hung up on the Utopian, humanistic outlook on Starfleet and as a result the stories are not edgy enough. Look at some of the ST movies that have done well, it's the ones where all the stops have been pulled and Kirk or Picard have had to bend some morals (ie. Prime Directive) to save themselves or get things done.

This is the direction I think the Star Trek series should have gone after Voyager: they should have explored the vast story potential of Section 31 -- that "secret Starfleet organization that protects the Federation from threats by any means necessary" which first came to light during the Deep Space 9 series. I think there is the potential for some great material there. The writers could have created a show surrounding the missions carried out by a team of Section 31 mercenaries made up of various flawed characters including a Jem'Hadar warrior, a human, a Bajoran, a Klingon, a Vulcan and whatever other characters who might ramp up the tension amongst the team and its opponents. It would go against the Utopian mindset of Starfleet but I think it would make for exciting television, whether or not the audience believes them to be good guys or not.

Yep, & it's those that were generally more entertaining. I always far prefered the old series with Kirk and his "cowboy diplomacy" In other words, try to make peace when beaming down, but if things go sideways, have phasers on kill. Picard seemed way too hung up on diplomacy & not enough on the exploration and excitement. I look at Picard as kind of a 20th century French leader, not willing to ruffle anyones feathers  & Kirk as a 19th century American leader who shoots first and asks questions later.(way more interesting character) I too think Roddenberry allowed that utopian theme to eventually rule & (kind of) ruin his franchise. Irwin Allen, for all his creative faults, at least never quit having fun with his four SF series..Screw the prime directive, all it ever did was get the Enterprise into trouble.. :yesnod:

There a few lessons to be taken from the numerous star trek series

1.  You gotta have the ship to have a good show.  I feel that was a major shortcoming of ds9, no ship, just a stupid space station, an ugly space station.

2.  gotta have a strong  captian with a cool ship.  Voyager was not the "flagship" and while the captian was pretty tough, the first officer was a weenie.  Enterprise had an ok cool ship, but the captain was not "cool" enough for me.

3.  you gotta have one male character who will bang anything with a pulse (kirk, riker)

I, for one, am looking forward to a new star trek movie.

The new Star Trek trailer is on You Tube. It's a bootleg copy but I like it. Check it out here. http://trekmovie.com/2008/11/15/star-trek-trailer-hits-the-net-unofficially/

I grew up with all of them and I'm sure i'm in the minority here, but I thought "Voyager" was the best of the post 60's Star Treks.
