Restoring the plastic grill on my charger 1972 Rally and see that is is two diffrent colors from the factory. Anybody know which colors are diffrent and any tips on restoring these parts would be appreciated.

Hello Migsbig

You'll want to use semi-gloss black to match the factory rallye appearance. If you have to make it concourse perfect use krylon1613, otherwise any old rattle can semi gloss will work. I know what you mean about 2 colors... the other is an argent silver. I've never seen it on a rallye before maybe a late year option to an SE package??  :shruggy:

This is the grill in front bumper, so it is silver on outside and darker color (argent or black?) on the inside of the fins.

OK did some digging in some old sales literature. The grills for the standard charger and Rallye were the same. The paint scheme you have is correct for the base charger. The Rallye was all blacked out just like the tail light louvers. The SE would have had the hiding headlights.

So if you want it rallye correct...all semi-gloss. Now of course if you like that color better do what you want it's your car, mine has hiding headlights

This has being a long discussion several times on some boards. Suposselly Rallyes got a darker treatment ( not blacked out, but just darker finish ), BUT parts catalogs just show ONE PN for the 72 grilles

The official Rallye brochure shows a dark gray grill, and searching around on the web several Rallyes too, but some others are also light gray/argent

And still seems the Parts catalog shows one PN not two ( not checked personally, but has being told )

"Astrotone" is Astrotone Silver and it's a "Medium Textured Argent Silver DNA-8575". Yes... I googled it..

i'm still sticking with my answer, the "blackout" treatment for a rallye as described in the sales brochure was semi-gloss black

Appreciate all the help there guys. This was the Delema I was having as I was sure it was a done or some sort. Gonna go to my storage over the weekend and see if I can pull the originals out of the crates and check. If it is all dark grey, wonder if it is the same for paint used on 1970 Cuda grills as 'dark argent'?

Nacho-RT74

I like to thing the rallyes got Dark Argent and standards the basic argent. Personally I don't like a full black look in front without some light accent. The dark argen will tell there is still something there LOL
