While it's on sale, I am ordering all new glass from ECS for my '68 Charger.  They can add the date code, is there a listing of known production dates vs. VIN's anywhere?  I have a pretty early car with 1106XX as my last 6.

Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

I don't have the build sheet for my '68 Charger to know the exact day that it was actually built, but the scheduled build date was April 15th. The car has all of the original glass. I have not looked at my windshield or rear glass yet, but both main door glass were made in January of '68, one vent window glass was March of '68, the other was December of '67, one quarter window was April of '68 and the other was March of '68 just to give you an idea...

Just an FYI, 1968 Chargers do not have door tags.

Ah my car had non-original doors on it when I got it, I assumed that was a thing before '70.  Good to know, thanks!

real early Charger, what color/engine/options?  :coolgleamA: got any upper door panel emblem/vent cable pulls/steering wheel/bottom of decklid/taillight support pics

it would've been "SCHEDULED" somewhere during the  4th week of August 1967 - between Sunday 8/20 and Saturday 8/26 - actual production could've been days or weeks in either direction

Awesome, thanks!  All I have is a VIN and what I have been able to detective since I got the car.  It is an original 383/2 barrel car and I believe it to be an original 4 speed car.  It was a royal mess, wrong doors and fenders off a '69 (so door pads long gone), and rotted all to hell.  I am now balls deep in restoring it, having replaced about 50% of the unibody and tracked down original '68 everything it was missing (just about everything, lol).  What was left that could be original all points to an early car, arrow emblems on sail panel, slider ash tray, 1/2 horn ring steering wheel (not sure what it's called), no shoulder belts, ect... not sure about the other early car oddities, the car is away being restored.  The restorer seems to think it was originally white, I wasn't there when the car got blasted.

In hindsight I would run away from this car but I am in too deep now and I am in for the love of my Charger at this point.  Plans now are QQ1, 505 BB Wedge, Passon 5 speed, and protouring suspension (XV Level1), Viper Brakes (if I can scrounge up an AR kit for gen 3 viper brakes) with a completely stock body (sans frame connectors, all 4 torque boxes, inner fender braces) and interior except for front seats.

Hamtramck assembly completed around 3,800 Chargers for the month of August 1967, only besting Imperial in the entire Chrysler line-up
that 3,800 '68 Chargers was better than each of the prior 12 months of '67 Charger production   :hah:

a slow start for an otherwise fantastic year  :2thumbs: (August '67 ~4% of Charger production for model year 1968)

Stupid question, if my car is the 10,xxx whatever Charger built and they only built 3,800 in August, how could my car possibly have been built in August?  When did production start?

Is it possible to say my car was definitely built after x date and before x date?

Hamtramck started assigning VINs at "8B100001" - the assigned VINs cover all cars assembled at that plant

Hamtramck assembled Barracudas, Chargers, Darts & Valiants - by the end of August, assigned VINs were in the "8B117000" range
based on the info I have - it appears they were ahead of schedule by the end of the month

your Charger was about the 3,000 Charger built - without lots of original paperwork built early/late is anyone's guess - IMO it was built in the second half of August  :Twocents:

Ah, I thought the VINS were sequential just for each model not all cars made at a plant, very cool. :2thumbs:

That FINALLY explains why the range of VINs on a 1969 Charger are so broad. It's WAY more than just Charger. Thanks.  :cheers:

Did anything happen in the last 2 weeks of August 1967 that would be exciting enough to pick as the date for my glass? :shruggy:

glass is only dated month & year, I'd bet "77" would work

That would be lucky I suppose  :cheers:  Crazy how many things changed from 68 to 70, my Challenger side glass has the whole date on it.

You May be right (as usual) again, I thought it was 7.26.69, but it probably means something else.  My Challenger is an October '69 LA built car.

something like:  :scratchchin:

AS2 = American Standard classification #2 = side/rear glass
M8.7 = (M8 = type model number)&(.7 = 7/32" thick)
26 = PPG Plant Crestline, OH
109 = October 1969
DOT 18 = ??

Here's a better view of your glass pic. I do some editing to make it easier to read.

Cool that makes sense with the October build date of my Challenger.  Could my Charger glass have been made in July with a late August build date?  Were they making it that far ahead of time?
