I worked at Great Dane and they used stainless steal on the inside of the trailers and it was magnetic. Me we all know it's not. So my under standing is low grade stainless is magnetic. And high isn't. That is my under standing. Please if I am wrong let me know. I also worked in a fab shop to and worked with high grade stainless and it was not magnetic. So  :shruggy:  :popcrn:
i am a fair person and up frount person and try to help if i can. i love my mopars thats. all i ever owned first car was my 69 charger at the age of 15.

this means that the center will always be rust free in theory  ::)

The lower grade 409 stainless is more magnetic then the higher grade 304 stainless where a magnet will not stick to it.

WOW!  :RantExplode:

"ROAD WHEELS" started in '67 NOT '69 - the centers are NOT stainless - the reproduction GOODYEAR POLYGLAS tires shown in the pictures are not available from Coker (try: KELSEY TIRE) - they would be F70-14 on a '69 b-body NOT G70-14 - the reproduction center caps are taller than what was on a '69 wheel, but NO mention of this in the '69 wheel details article -

"Road wheels" started in '69... of course they were called Magnum 500's before '69. Further down .. almost to the bottom he says
QuoteSo now you know what Road Wheels came on your 66-68 B-body, what Road Wheels and trim rings came on your 69 B-body, and what Road Wheels and trim rings came on your '70-and-up B-body

Tire size wrong..

BTW, I bought my F70-14 Goodyear Speedway Redstreaks / lines through Universal Vintage and was told they came directly out of Goodyear. In 1989 I got my Goodyear Polyglass F70-15's through my local Goodyear dealer.

Chrysler always called them "ROAD Wheels" or "chrome styled ROAD Wheels" with the trim ring

the manufacturer MOTOR WHEEL CORP. & FoMoCo called them "MAGNUM 500"

Okay.. good info.. so the 67/68 had no trim rings? '69 up did...

the all chrome 1967-1968 "ROAD Wheel" was available 14x5.5" on B-bodies & 14x6.0" on C-bodies

a 14x6.0" version returned (with trim ring) for the '71 model year for 440 & HEMI equipped B-bodies with the G70-14 RWL Goodyear POLYGLAS

these wheels have the same satin chrome spokes but the rim is painted gray instead of black

ht4spd307

i always thought the center was mild steel with satin chrome

The set on my '69 have rust where the lug nuts seat.

ht4spd307

strangely enough mine had rust spots on the center as well but when you scratch it with your finger nail the rust comes off clean with no pitting underneath the rust   :scratchchin:

I have had several 69 b bodies and all had chrome road wheels that did not need a beauty ring.

Are the modern Magnum 500 replacements worth a hoot?  Obviously wider, but decent build quality, proper backspacing?

I got a new set a couple years ago, and they started rusting in a year through the chrome.

RECHRGD

I bought a set from year one about 18 years ago.  They still look like new after almost 50K miles......

So...good and bad depending on where you get them?

i think the reason they look new  is that you purchased 18 years ago & things
were made with better materials back then maybe ?

Could be.  I know that different companies sell them.  As I recall, mine were made by 'wheel vintiques'.....

does anyone know how tall the original road wheel center caps are on a 69 charger

6bblgt

the original "road wheel" center cap is 2" tall

at some point after the 14x6.0" "road wheel w/trim ring" came out for '71, the center cap grew to 2-1/4"
