Confirming VIN vs body number on a '68

I'm new to this game and am looking for a '68.  From what I understand the number stamped on the rad support and trunk lip is the order number on the '68's.  Is there anyway I can confirm the VIN belongs to the body?

I don't want to end up with a sketchy car.

Thanks in advance.

there is some rhyme & reason to the relationship between the two

that being said I have a database of some '68 Chargers that I can compare the numbers to see if they are appropriate
post or PM the VIN & S.O.# and I'll see if I can help

cdr

also the build sheet ties the vin # to the body #,, IF you have one.

A build sheet is the only way to tie the VIN to the fender tag on a '68.

Or window sticker or a rarely found inspection document.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

What would an inspection document look like? I don't think I've ever seen one.  :scratchchin:

Thanks for the replies.  I did find two December cars built one day apart.  The VIN was only different by a couple hundred but the SO# was off by over 60,000.
