Blown Header Gasket

    I sure wish some company could make header gasket that hold up. Pain in the ass :brickwall:

I use TTI gaskets that are sized for the pipe diameter. I haven't had a blowout in several years. The bolts have to be tight too. Any point where the exhaust can escape is a point where they can burn and blow out.

My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

    The gasket is a TTI that came with the headers. There instuctions call for a thin layer of high temp goo. I hate to put that shit on because it can make a mess and pain to get off aluminum heads if I need to remove in the future. I ordered a new set from Mancini today, should be back in business by the end of the week.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

 Thanks,  Who sells Percy's I not heard of that company?

Dino

The big ones like Summit and Jegs, but you can find them in several places. They're called Percy's seal 4 good gaskets. They're multi-layered soft aluminum so they conform to less than flat surfaces and they are not affected by blow out like the paper gaskets.

Ive always used stock replacement felpros on mine. Never had an issue.

Draco

     Well,  looks like I have options thanks guys. I think I will try the TTI gasket first with some high temp sealer, see what happens.

I could not get any over here....so I made them out of 2mm copper sheet (cut out of old domestic hot water tank....hey Improvisation is my middle name!) and they will be annealed before fitting. Done it before without issue in a V8 Range Rover...so should be fine. Again annealed copper is soft enough to conform to less than perfect surfaces. I've made head gaskets the same way (for cars and high compression motorcycles) and had no issues.....yet!

I don't touch anything but Remflex. Not reusable, but indestructible and never leak.

I came across Soupy's a few years ago.  My uncle's and I have been using them with great luck so far.   :Twocents:

I do this on every header I've installed with NO leaks;

Cut the flanges in two place on each side; between #1 and #s 3/5 and between #s 3/5 and #7
Same thing on pass. side corresponding #s.

This allows the flanges to more easily conform to the head surfaces and does not compromise
header integrity.
