Sorry, it's another oil question, that am sure has been asked many times.
But I am bombarded with different opinions.

1970 440/6, engine rebuilt to stock approx 10 years ago, but less than 2000 miles

* What is the best grade/weight oil
* been told to stay away from synthetic oils
* do I need an oil with zinc

Recommend weight and brand?

Cheers

Brad Penn 20w/50 grade 1 blend. I use it on it's own with no additives, FT cam - no worries.

Has 1500ppm zinc and 1500ppm phos.

Sublime/Sixpack

There are some good oils on the market these days for flat tappet cam engines. I like Joe Gibbs DRIVEN 10w-30 Synthetic HR oil. That's what I run in my older Performance engines with good results.

Joe Gibbs here also, was using Alt Z muscle car oil but I could no longer find it

My engine guy told me Brad Penn 20/50 and that's what I use. Its not the only one that works, but it is sold in the speed shop 5 minutes from the house.  :yesnod:

The weight is determined by your build. If i ran 20w50 in my 383, it would bury the oil pressure gauge cold. Even the 10w40 i ran would bury an 80 psi gauge cold at 2000 rpm but was perfect on a hot engine. I like to see a minimum of 20 psi at hot, low idle (below 1000) and 50-60 at cruise rpm. Base your oil weight on that. Oh, and yes, bradpenn.
