RM23V0A168747 Superbid what's the consensus on the fender tag?

Check the super bird list for this vin. If the numbers on engine, trans look original and match, plus the rad support and trunk lip, good chance it is a real car.  Just without the paper and may be some reproduction items on it, dash swap, etc....  G

635th car produced... V code (6 pack) car when built. Don't see reason to question whether it's real or not. I guess in a previous life it could have been completely rebodied, but I highly doubt it   :shruggy:

Fender tag... someone put the paint on so heavy that it's hard to see if it has any inspection stamps, but the flattened area of the top right corner suggest it may be stamped. May be a repro tag, but if body / VIN / engine and trans numbers match (and are correct font) who cares!?

Look closely, it looks like the inspection stamp is just above and to the right of the V19, but could "26" for the radiator opening?

It is in the right spot to be the "26" rad size.

In comparison to other birds up for sale that have the so called documentation desired, this car presents itself in better fit/finish and a price pretty much in line with whats being offered, too bad it's a column auto...but that could be rectified :scratchchin:

At which point value drops again, so price appropriately.

Seller just responded:
Thank you for the interest in my car. Please see your answers below:
1. There is no documentation with the car, other than a clear Ohio title and the original fender tag. When I bought the car, there was no broadcast sheet or paperwork...sorry.
2. The last 8 numbers of the VIN number is properly stamped on the radiator wall and the engine block. I tried to take pictures for you...but you cent make them out in the picture. You are welcome to inspect the car before you buy....but trust me...they are there. I did not have the heart to peel the trunk seal and risk cracking/scratching the paint on the trunk lip to look for VIN there. Since this car was in the dame family dealership for over 30 years, I trust them when I was told it had all original metal. This was not a rusted out rebuild.
3. Per the listing, the car will not be released until I am paid in full. I have done this many times...and it's the safest process. The wire or bank check (no personal checks) must clear my account, and then I will release the car and the title. Once the car is paid for in full, I can sign over my clear Ohio title to you on the spot.

Please let me know if I can answer anything else for you. I look forward to your offer.

Can't blame him.. took me 28 years to peel my trunk seal back enough to then stare for days until I thought I saw something and sanded my paint down to finally find mine. Wasn't stamped hard enough to feel anything underneath!  :yesnod:

I thought you could use a mirror under the VIN stampings on the body parts to read?  Seems I did that when a anti-freeze decal covered up one. Can anyone confirm this?

Like I just stated above... ZERO indentation on the back side of my trunk gutter. So light minimal paint had it filled. I stared for days.. and THOUGHT I saw a 1 before sanding off the paint. My rad support is the same...

Now on my '69 Bee, it's so heavy on the rad support I can read it out the back side!

stamps rarely move enough metal to be felt on the other side - I've never seen a stamp that could be read from the backside

I did a search on the above and could not find any discussion. This car has no broadcast sheet. No mention of any documentation so assuming none. So this cars originality boils down to the vin tag. Check out the tag. Very poor pic but looks like a repro tag globed with paint. What do you think?

If you don't feel comfortable with the deal, don't do it.   :Twocents:
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

Exactly. An awful lot of cars don't have build sheets, mine included. That doesn't make them fake birds, it just means they don't have build sheets. This guy is being as upfront as he can and is doing all the right things as a seller, so check the trunl VIN, engine VIN, radiator VIn and if they agree it is real. He states the tranny is period correct so don't bother with that since it is not an original matching tranny.

You could send an email to Daytona-Superbird Auto Club and ask what they know about the car.    There might be information in the registry ;)

If you're serious about buying the car, the owner shouldn't have any issue removing the tag , so at least you can see the reverse side.
The inspection stamp should show.
If that doesn't make you comfortable with the tag, you can ask him to remove the paint from the tag in exchange for a small deposit.

An original to compare.

Love the tic-toc-tac. I had a chance to buy a 70 Roadrunner 440 6bbl, Hemi 4 speed... and it had a tic-toc-tac [it was loaded with options], my first time ever seeing one in person; sans motor for $1,500. A car I regret not selling everything I owned and/or borrowing the money to get at that time. But I have always wanted a car with a tic-toc-tac.
I would suggest giving Galen Govier a call.
