More than likely, the M is a H and your friend needs reading glasses.

That would be interesting too. A 383 R/T.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

How well does your friend know Chargers? I was at a car show last September and had a guy with a 69 R/T park next to my 68 Charger. He proceeded to tell me that his 69 was the ONLY real 69 R/T in the area, possibly the entire state (ok New Hampshire is small). I looked at the vin and then asked him to pop the hood. Yup, 383. Told him that R/T's came with a 440 or 426. He claimed that the original owner special ordered the car and that it was a true R/T with a 383. I asked if he had any paper work to confirm, at that point he slammed the hood and walked off. I went off to look at cars with a friend. When we came back my wife told me that he came back and started talking to her. He asked her what year her GTO was. When she replied a 72 and btw it's a Charger he walked off-again. ::) ::)

Thanks for the replies.....
I did tell my friend it cannot be an "M"
But I thought I would check just in case
he found a unicorn.
I'm waiting to hear back from him to confirm
Vin No
Thanks again

Homerr

If it does have an M in the VIN don't discount that it could be a repop/fake tag.  Dumbasses like to make up all kinds of fraudulent/ignorant crap.

Very true...I will let you guys know the outcome

Also check fender tag and see if they match.

No, (lol) not just a Aussie thing. Without trying to put in a call to the grammar police, I think had you put a period after the No and followed with a question mark it would have clarified it.  "No.?"  I had to read it and your original post before it was clear to me.   :2thumbs:

'M' is special order V8, all cars pre 1970 got that FIFTH digit code for unusual engine combo... :coolgleamA:
Maybe a late 69 car could be ordered with a SIXPACK???

Could even be a ballstud hemi or rare Chrysler 1969 Ovalport/D-port 440 engine from Weslake Engineering in the UK???

Never say NEVER!!! :nana:

500Jon

No harm meant Sneezi, just teasing!

There is a lot of rare stuff out there still to be found!
The ballstud hemi and the 440 Weslake Ovalport do exist!

They are 'One-off' made for the future (now the long past) of Mopar engineering!
Chrysler knew that the Hemi would probably get 'outlawed' in Nascar.
So, they tried to get in early with some 'cheaper' street friendly engines for passenger cars (then Nascar).
The OVALPORT 440 Engine was sent to Weslake UK, in the late sixties for development work.
Weslake had great success with other Amercian engines and were top of da TREE back then.

But the 'W2' ovalport 440 design was never furthered unlike the smallblock W2 head.
I'm sure it would have been very succesful and a nice addition after the '906' 68-70 era.
Instead Mother Mopar went full smog...

As you can see the Block and heads are drilled for EXTRA waterways around the plug areas.
This was taken up with the later Motorhome engines in the mid-seventies.
Huge 2.250 intakes and 1.80 exhausts would have breathed well.
The rockers are custom castings too, more like the Indy types we have now.

Rumoured to make over 600hp on the Dyno, well up with the 426 hemi's.
IF A JOB's WORTH DOING, ITS WORTH DOING WELL, RIP DAD.
4-SPEED, 1969 Charger-500 is the most Coolio car in the World!

500Jon

The neatest thing about the 440 Weslake is the custom made 440-length 'hemi' rods with 7/16 rod bolts!

Normal length 426 6.860 hemi rod in foreground, 440 6.760 hemi rod and SIXPACK piston behind.
Very trick engineering for 1969...

How do we know it was destined to be a passenger car head, its quite obvious when you look at the heat crossover.

These heads were cast well after the 62-64 max-wedge era and they are heat-crossover free!
IF A JOB's WORTH DOING, ITS WORTH DOING WELL, RIP DAD.
4-SPEED, 1969 Charger-500 is the most Coolio car in the World!

500Jon

Weslake porting plate laid over a W2 smallblock intake gasket.
IF A JOB's WORTH DOING, ITS WORTH DOING WELL, RIP DAD.
4-SPEED, 1969 Charger-500 is the most Coolio car in the World!

500Jon

Lots of STR internal works done to overcome distribution ILLS!
This manifold suffered with fueling problems 'back in the day' as did the 426 crossrams.
IF A JOB's WORTH DOING, ITS WORTH DOING WELL, RIP DAD.
4-SPEED, 1969 Charger-500 is the most Coolio car in the World!

Wow....thats a very interesting story 500Jon, love hearing these stories.

Now the update is the Seller has bailed out of selling the car.
My friend thinks he was asking too much for a photo of the Vin number and tag (close up)
even though he told him im flying in from australia so i need to make sure the numbers are right.

I was quietly hoping it was one of those unicorns but i knew it could not be true.

Moparpoolman

If it is for sale, Where is the car?  Maybe a DC.com member lives close to it and can look into it.

Best guess is a Six-Pack car but if you know anything about Mopars... if you had the money-- you could walk into your local dealership and basically order about any combination that you wanted.
If this turns out to be a Six-Pack car, even in this terrible condition, it is well worth $1,500 in my opinion. But that someone will have to have deep pockets because it needs a total restoration, a date-coded block etc. ad infinitum.
--You'd want to have Galen Govier look at it, document it, the whole nine yards. Then, IF it turns out in your favor-- send it over to Graveyard Cars. If Mark thinks there is enough of the original car left then he will do the restoration. But be forewarned, he has turned down [doing a resto' on] a very special car because, in his opinion, there was not enough left of the original car for it to be considered "original" after he had cut away, and replaced all that needed replacing on the car.
As for those who would berate the car and seller... don't even worry about them. They don't have the passion and TLC to posses a diamond in the rough such as this car. All they can think about is money! Hey, if you REALLY want a car you find a way to come up with the money. When I saw the opportunity as a kid to buy a 440 4-speed roadrunner [with a 318 in it] for $500, I took it! I did not have a dime in my pocket but I bought the car. When I had the chance to buy a 69' Hemi Roadrunner, sans engine, for $500 I jumped on it even though I only had $20 in my pocket. Never let a naysayer kill your dream.

You say even in this Terrible shape, How do you know what shape it is in. Poster never described it's condition or shape? You then say if it's real it's well worth $1,500 in your opinion. I would think a 1 of 1 unique 69 Charger R/T with factory original 440 6 pack engine is worth much more then a lowball $1,500? :shruggy:
