68 Inner Fender Splash Shields - how does the side rubber mount?

I'm putting together the inner fender splash shields for my Charger tonight, and I'm not 100% sure how the rubber strip on the side mounts.

There are 6 "door panel" style clips that hold the "T" shaped rubber in. But it looks like there are a bunch of different ways it could go.

Anyone have a picutre of the correct way?

Thanks!!

I'm doing the same thing to my 69 as far as the splash guards. I'm not sure I will be puttting my rubber seals back in I think that is where all the water and dirt lays thats why alot of cars rust there> I know my car is not going to be daily driver so won't see rain or snow or any bad weather as far as that goes. I know this dosen't answer your question I just happened to be doing the same thing right now. were your shields rusty did you buy new guards if so where from  thanks  tom

I don't think I have a photo of it up close.

For starters, finish preparing the splash shields.  I coated mine with primer and then Eastwood's Underhood Black.

I then layed out the rubber and did a test fit under the fender.  You will see that in reality, there is only one way the rubber can mount and one way it can go in.  That is if you bought your rubber strips from YO like I did.  The purpose, as you know is to seal the door jamb and keep the water out.  You'll see that once you place the shield in place, you will have to come at it from the door hinge area to poke the rubber out so it seals properly.  Are ya followin' me?  What I'm trying to say is that as you try and put the shield in position, there is a great chance the rubber will fold over and you'll be able to see light past the shield.  That's when you need to poke the rubber back out.

You do know that you might need to cut the rubber strip that runs along the side as mine was about 6" too long.

I'll post this for now and try to find a photo.

Looks good! thanks for the pictures! I had my painter shoot the shields black, I'll put some undercoating on them before they go on final.

OK I think I did it wrong. Here are 3 picutres; one showing the seal.

Does the shorter end of the rubber "T" go towards the shield with the longer end sealing against the fender?

Or the other way; the longer end of the rubber "T" goes against the shield with the shorter portion against the fender?

Thanks!

:yesnod:

The shields, at least mine, will not fit really snug to the fender so the longer edge of rubber compensates.

I recall using a hole punch to poke the clps through.

Great pictures. Where did you buy the bolts and rubber for your splash shields? I'm having a hard time finding these. Thanks for the info.

Don't even think of buying direct from AMD.  Try this guy...Have patience if you call, he has a full time day job.  Best send him an email and ask for a quote.

Does anyone know if the side rubber gaskets are available by themselves? I bought the upper ones already and I only see the side ones in a kit.  :shruggy:

Sorry to hijack the thread!
