If thats your dream car, that seems like a great car for the price  :coolgleamA: , every old dodge needs a trunk pan, and any old car could use a driver side floor pan.

Moparsaver

That's the one Tantop.   Thank you for the help.   it is most appreciated.    Baldwin, yes I have been looking for a few years to find the right one.   I respect all of you as very knowledgeable people and hope you can help me access This one.   Thanks to all.   -Tom

Wonder how long it has spent it's life on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean? I would look that one over real close for any hidden rust. I live just north of Portsmouth  :2thumbs:

The pics are of the same car.   Story goes 1 maybe 2 owner car that spent most of its life in Illinois. The blue picture is when the seller got the car approx 2 years ago and the craigslist pictures are of the car as it is presently.  I intend on giving the car a good look over in person if/when I go check it out.  Hell, maybe I'll pick you up on the way?  I'm only a little south of you in Framingham Ma.     Seller said the body numbers match.   Where exactly on that car are they?

71_Charger_R/T

That could be a beautiful car! B5, 4BBL automatic with console,Stripe delete..... same as mine. Price doesn't seem unreasonable. I'd let him keep the six-pack and 4 speed. I wouldn't change it up if it's got all the pieces it was born with.

Body numbers will be on the radiator core support, cowl add on piece above the wiper motor, fender tag, driver's door back edge (sticker) and VIN plate on dash. Some will say on the trunk lip, but i've never yet seen a '71 with one there.

A drivers floor pan will be about $70. A Quarter (if available) about $550 and the full trunk floor will be about $325. (all AMD)

Moparsaver

thanks R/T, my  thoughts exactly.  Unless we strike a magic number for everything of coarse.  Any chance you would have pics of exactly where to look for the radiator support and cowl numbers?  If anyone else wants to chime in on the trunk lip number location, that would be great.   Everything else seems a match, unless I'm missing something else?   Thanks -Tom

For whatever reason, my Safari isn't playing well with my photobucket. I am not able to post pictures on here due to that. If you PM me on here or just email me at 71chargerrt@gmail.com  and give me your email address, I can attach photos in an email that will depict where the cowl and radiator core support VIN stampings are.

I think if the special stuff is there like the doors, hood insert, tail lights it's a steal if it's as advertised, matching #'s rebuilt etc.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Moparsaver

Thank you all for the input.  So far, the feedback seems positive.   Are there any known problem areas on the underside to look for?   The Car seems very complete.    The original jack is still mounted in the trunk also.  Thanks, -Tom

Dino

The usual for a mopar this age really. You'll find rust in the trunk and likely floor pans here and there. Worst usually around the pedals. Also the rear quarters behind the wheels. All we can ask for these days is having a car with solid frame rails and rockers. Just look everywhere you can and ask the seller if you can tap the metal here and there. Check below the lower door hinge, under the battery (usually rot from acid leaks), around the front and rear windshield. You'll be able to tell quickly if it's a basket case or not. These cars don't hide anything.

Thanks Dino.    I will make it a point to look over those areas carefully.

You're welcome!

Good luck and here's hoping for a positive outcome!

I'm reading a lot of threads that mention different registry's for different model years.  Is there a registry for the 1971 R/T?   And is there any way to tell how many 71 R/T's are left in existence?   :icon_smile_big:  Thanks, -Tom

71_Charger_R/T

Yes. There is the http://www.71chargerrtregistry.com   It won't necessarily tell how many exist, but you can see how many are REGISTERED as existing. (The one you are looking at is already in the registry. File #4786.) Nice guys running the registry! (R/T side, Kevin Bucheger / Super Bee side, John M. Bōber.) I think John owns the site and Kevin helps.....

:2thumbs:   So, this car is already in the registry.    Is this beneficial in considering buying the car?   Thanks, Tom

71_Charger_R/T

Not necessarily. Other than, it DOES mean someone took enough pride in it and thought it was more than a run of the mill transportation mode, enough so, to put it in the registry.

check the "seam "across the firewall , if its crusty at all chances are you have cowl rust from blocked drain holes

also see if you can remove kick panels and look inside A pillar they rust out  from the inside out
A pillar rust and rusted out cowls are the worst of it ,everything else is just standard mopar rust . back window  ,look up from inside trunk . trunk extensions etc

Thanks mike.   :2thumbs:   That's great.    Awesome job on your restoration.  It looks fantastic!!   The seller has provided me some pics and has been very pleasant in phone conversations.   I feel a road trip is imminent.   The more info I have, the better informed I will be.  Thank you all.   -Tom

The past week has produced several feet of snow and a Russian spy ship off our coast :2guns: :2guns: :2guns:   The seller and I talked for some time and were close to making arrangements for me to drive up and have a look. I like the car a lot but  I Am not one to dive in head first without actually looking at it, touching it, seeing everything in person.  So, weather permitting, we'll see what happens.   He did say he was getting some interest in the car, so it may have sold? :ahum:      Is 8-10 grand a realistic number to do the floor pan, trunk floor, quarter, and put the car in paint?    Weighing my options.  :yesnod:   Thanks, -Tom.
