Radiator Re-core Cost

I am going to start getting some estimates on re-coring my 26" (956) radiator and was wondering what I should be expecting to pay for this?  Top, bottom, sides are in excellent condition.

Is it recommended to go with a 4 row or stay with 3 row?

You're probably looking between $350- $500 for the recore job.  As for the number of rows, I've always heard more is better, can't see how 4 over 3 would hurt, I'm sure the rad shop that does the recore will advise you right.

I spent $475 to recore the radiator in my survivor 69 Charger. It hurt, but what are you gonna do?

Mine was done by a business acquaintance at cost at $350.00.  So, list price would have been around $450.00 +.

I was quoted $500+ for my 22" rad out of my 66....I went with aftermarket

Glen Ray did mine it was $700 and I would recomend them to all.  I am very happy with it :cheers:

That a lot of cash....normally things are cheaper in the US!!..... I looked into it here (UK). Classic car guys getting ripped of again. To recore the radiator in my Merc, for example £112 (about $137), not that I would...just buy another but I wanted to compare. To recore the old (possibly original??) one in my 69 ...£400 (about $490!)....even though its the same guy using the same tools and same cost material. He said the reason why was that if he broke it, it would cost a lot more to source me another original spec one!!! WHAT! So I'm paying more in case you break it. I suggested he charged me £112....and I would pay the £400 if he broke it....No go!!
Wont be going either way now.....gonna need a much BIGGER one for my plans!!

Since mine wasn't original to the car, I went aftermarket with a 26" repro that matched perfectly for $350. It solved my cooling issue and looks stock.

I would say 3-500$ Going to a 4 core your tanks have to be wide enough to take the extra core, also if it does make sure the fan you are using is not to close to the radiator.

Year One. I bought the one without the numbers stamped on the top, so I guess it's not a true "reproduction" although it looks exactly like the one it replaced (with the exception of the numbers). They also sell one's with the numbers on the top, but they are out of my budget!

....the wrongly clocked caps on those always give them away as repro though...even to an amateur like me...don't know why they do that!

Don't remember the box, but it does have the offset cap. Knock on wood  ;D

Hey thanks! I didn't know they were out there in that price range. I prefer the factory look over aluminum, and repro-ish is fine for my non numbers 318 Charger 500 with a 440 in it  ;)

Mine is still holding, but it's nice to know of options when the time comes.

That looks like a very fair deal, granted it is over 5 years ago as you stated.  I've got a phone estimate locally here (Indiana) at between $400 and $500, hopefully when he sees it he will lean towards the $400.  Maybe if I say it's for a New Yorker instead of an R/T Charger I may get a break too (lol).  Thanks.

The reason I asked was I bought one through YO that was made by U.S. Radiator. It leaked on day one, had solder covering the tubes. Called YO, they suggested I call U.S. Radiator, they said "too bad so sad". YO paid $200 to have the radiator fixed local here.

P.S, my cap is offset like that too.

Is this a show car? If not, buy a 2 row aluminum dual pass cross flow for about 200 bucks shipped. A 22 inch aluminum of the above description Will outperform a brass 4 row 26" downflow drastically.

I had my original 69 440 Auto with A/C "055"  converted from a 2 row recored to a 3 row using a high efficiency core about 10 years ago...cost me well over $500

Then i would reccomend an aluminum downflow and paint it black. Will still be cheaper and cool better and fit the "origonal look"

mine was 350.00 Canadian one year ago . took my cars temp. down 10 to 12 degrees

It also depends on the price of copper.  It fluctuates like gold & silver :Twocents:  If copper is up...the price of the cores goes up...
