Cookie Monster - 1968 Charger

So I just picked up a 1968 Charger R/T 440 this weekend (#'s matching). Bought it from the original owner. The body and engine are in great shape the only "issue" is the previous owner put his own spin on the interior in the 1970's. I would like to say he murdered Cookie Monster and upholstered him in the car. Sadly he did it over the original blue interior. So I have spent the last few days removing his handy work and trying what I can to salvage the interior (pics). In addition he removed the back seat and added his own speakers.

Does anyone have any hints on how to remove glue residue from the interior panels and dash? Additionally, does anyone have any recommendations for the best way to straighten the seat hooks?

If anyone knows someone selling blue interior pieces let me know.

Finding some interesting stuff for the concurs guys though... note that dual exhaust hanger wasn't painted, yet installed after the body was painted and left bare!

you could try WD30 in a small spot with repeated application. Discolorization may have already happened with old glue and may focus on the pads/seat and plan on replacing the door panels and head liner.  This is the direction I would try.  You decide what works best and for you.  Good luck.  Otherwise, good looking car otherwise.  What is not to like it is a 68 (almost a 69  )

As above, WD40 removes glue residue like a champ!

Taking the exterior back to blue? Or doing the interior in black?

mineral turpentine will remove the glue if its contact adhesive .soak a rag and load it on dont be shy .takes a few minutes to start working once it starts to soften start rubbing it off with the soaked rag

Both the exterior and interior were originally blue, here is the fender tag. Previous owner had it painted black in 1992. I am thinking of bringing it back to the original, not sure yet.

Oooooohhhhh dear ... as a fellow owner of a 68 R/T 440, there's just no words ... that puts the final nail in the coffin for my respect for humanity haha ... other than poor cookie monster the car looks immaculate. Hopefully fixing all that interior eyesore goes without a hitch, and congrats, welcome to the club.

not trying to out shine you but I've been a motor trimmer (auto upholsterer) for 30 +years and mineral turps is  what we use to remove contact adhesive glue from vinyl or cloth with no damage to the surface of the door trim or seat wd40 wont damage the vinyl but will leave an oily residue. paint shop panel wipe will damage the vinyl as it softness the surface of the vinyl and in turn can removed the color   .if you need something a bit stronger use white spirits but try it in a spot were its not noticeable just in case  but if another type of glue has been used which hardens your pretty well stuffed and it wont matter what you use as your not going to get it off with out damage
