MANUFACTURER DROPPING OUT OF NASCAR

This article was posted on the NASCAR Jayski website. As those of you know, who like NASCAR, Jayski is a great website, and know their stuff. Although the article does not say who is leaving, I would guess GM. They are in financial trouble. That would shake things up if Chevy is leaving. Could you imagine the 24 Dupont Dodge? Will be interesting. http://www.autoextremist.com/page3.shtml

I work with a guy whos daughter is Dale Jr.'s personal secretary. We were talking about this last week already. The rumor is Dodge may be pulling out again because they did not like the teams using Intrepids and they do not like the car of tomarrow as they do not even come close to looking like the street version (not that the current cars do). It wouldn't supprize me either since they didn't last long in the IROC series either.

There is much more to the story than a manufacturer reportedly considering withdrawal from NASCAR.

General Motors and Ford realize they really shouldn't be spending the money they do on race programs when ultimately their companies are dying. Dodge can afford it but - because it is not owned by a U.S. company - sees beyond the romance and nostalgia of NASCAR and realizes that "Win Sunday, Sell Monday" became an obsolete sales philosophy more than 10 years ago.

NASCAR foresaw this coming - the whole industry did, actually - so began courting manufacturers outside of the Big Three (Toyota) and created its own car (Car of the Future) to ensure it will have some sort of future if one of the Big Three were to start pulling out.
Sixty-eights look great and the '69 is fine.
But before the General Lee there was me - Headrope.

Meh....................they're custom made cars anyway. Add your brand stickers and go racing........boring. NASCAR is all about the drivers, not the cars. The drivers can run in anytihng and people will still watch it. Only car guys care about the brand of the car and the vast majority of fans couldn't tell you what brand so an so drives. But they know Tony Stewart drives for Home Depot.......etc. Pontiac..Chevy? Who knows.

NASCAR sold out a long time ago.................so it makes no difference to me who's in and who's not.

My guess is Ford.

I don't like modern NASCAR at all either.
But then again, the same set of arguments & complaints made Football's short-lived "XFL" series sound like a great idea a couple years ago.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I doubt DCX would pull out of NASCAR right now.
The 'Krauts at Daimler are still in too much hot water right now to risk the P.R. consequences.  If THEY  pulled out, then the press would probably chalk it up to their company's German decisionmakers rather than any issue with NASCAR.

I doubt it's GM that's pulling out either.
Honestly, I just think the decision is a little too smart for GM to have made it.  Deciding to cut NASCAR would mean they had to truly understand & internalize a bunch of shifts in the American automotive culture that have all happened after the 1970s.  I think that's still way outside of GM's intellectual reach.  They can read & respond to simple statistics, but they can't actually THINK and PLAN like this.

Ford is the most likely one as far as I'm concerned.  Their image is still all-american enough to survive a pullout, their top brass is willing to think like that, and they need the money that badly.

Seems like NASCAR is a case of who ever has the most money wins

Get your stones ready to throw at me, but when the last B body Dodge and Plymouth circled the tracks for the last time, I stopped watching. Even when Petty went to the Magnum body style I wouldn't watch it. The rules were bent to penalize the hemi's breathing ability and to get GM and to a lesser extent Ford back into the winner's circle, or close at least.
Today's cars have absolutely nothing in common with the street version so how can they be stock[/b] cars?
All money and who you know - just like politics and I don't care for that either.

MassCharger73

The car of tomorrow and a common template body should help any struggling manufacturer because it is going to reduce one aspect of the development process. It will put more emphasis on chassis and horsepower. The importance isn't on whether the car looks like a non existant two door car but on if the car is in the winners circle. The old chassis that will no longer be usable ( atleast without major mods ) may be usable in the Busch series. The rumor floating around there is that they might change the Busch bodies to "pony cars". It might be interesting to see Mustangs, Camaros and Challengers circling the track. I for one am already having a tough time watching the Toyotas kicking butt in the truck series. The loss of one of the big three (American) manufacturers will only make Toyotas entrance into cup that much more painful.

Ford seems like a logical choice.  Only 9 guys drive Fords as of right now and 2 of them are about ready to retire.  They could easily get in to a Toyota and no one would even notice.  Yeah, I said Toyota. Next year.

No one even noticed when Pontiac quit, it was seemless.  It's all about money now and no fans really care which car they drive IMHO.
Back in the day it was about the driver and the car manufacturer, nowadays, it's the driver and am I gonna shop at Lowe's or The Home Depot. Am I gonna drink Bud cause I like Jr or Miller Lite cause I like Kurt Busch.  Well, I drink Milwaukees' Best Light cause I don't like either. :METAL:

Duey

I am generally okay with NASCAR if I remind myself that is IS NOT stock car racing anymore.  Stock car racing as we remember it died in the early-80's.

Now it's just a Chevy biased template race series, nothing more...

Cheers,

I would watch nascar if they showed the entire season from 1969 instead of the current stuff.

I can hardly tell what car is what and the similarity between what is racing and what we can buy is night and day. Even in the mid 80's you could tell what someone was driving and they were 100% fabricated like the current breed.
About all that interests me anymore is plain old bracket racing, I'd rather watch two 14 sec mustangs than a bunch of cookie cutters running around.

uuum  beast is just the milwaukee sewer water that they scrape off the bottom of the sludge tank ...give natural light a try, tastes better and doesnt make you feel like youve ben hit by a truck the next day. or try busch, a buck or so more a case and they support a whole nascar series.

NHCharger

I use to be a big fan but no more. It's all about the money with NASCAR. When we build houses the Tyvek is stamped "NASCAR Approved", who gives a $hit about that. If you gave NA$CAR enough money they would probably be willing to stamp "NASCAR approved" on your penis.

Nobody in Milwaukee drinks any beer with Milwaukee in the name! ........trust me I lived here forever!  :yesnod:

I'm kind of surprised at the anti-NASCAR sentiment. True it's not what it used to be, watch "back in the day" lots of cool old footage. But any way, I like the technology aspect, (what upgrades have you put into your car??) and welcome any manufacturer that thinks they can step up to the plate!  ;D ;D

Hey , if you live there, do they still make "the beast" in bottles out your way.  When I went to Chicago for the NASCAR race a few years ago, we walked in to a grocery cooler and I saw it in bottles and fell to my knees, I thought I had died and gone to beer heaven.  Man would I like Maine to get it in bottles.  Classic taste at it's best baby!!! Wait i'm taking a swig right now, man that is gooooooood coffee! goood coffee!!
I haven't eatin' in 6 days and I run 6-7 miles a day.  Miracle beverage, I think so!

Ain't that the truth.  These are the same people who truly believe in their heart that a 305 engine makes an SS car.   ::)
