Anybody out there ever bought a Mopar car off Craiglist?

Ryan.C

I bought my 69 Charger from a craigslist add in 2013 and have looked at several since. Why do you ask?

I have sold a few on there.   Most people sent me the money and then sent a car carrier after the car.   They were cheap cars and I sent 30+ pictures.

I curently have several items listed on craigslist (heavy equipment, vehicles, side by side).

Never had a problem, buying or selling, on craigslist, but I only deal with cash.   :yesnod:

Good looking little jeep!!!

Same here, bought & sold on craigslist without any trouble.  :2thumbs:

Having said that though, you will run across some strange people once in a while.

Just this past summer I emailed a guy with an ad for a $600 4 door, Dodge Dart that was supposed to be drivable. I wasn't going to haggle but I asked him 3 questions.

1) Do you have a title?

2) Where are you located?

3) Is there room to maneuver a car trailer to load it?

He took the time to reply but instead of answering any of my questions he said, "What do you expect for $600? Do you want me to deliver it to you?" Some people are just dicks.

I've never bought a Mopar off Craigslist. Sold a 2005 Magnum R/T and a 2006 Daytona Charger on there. That's about it....banged my head against the wall both times.

Bought my '56 Plymouth long-distance from Craigslist, seller was less than truthful about a couple of issues but I was prepared for that. Payment was made with a certified check...no problems on either end.

I have also sold multiple cars in several states with zero issues. I should also state that I vet potential buyers over the phone before I give out my address.

Howdy Ryan C. I asked the question because I was looking over Craigslist this week, and I found some stuff that interested me. But I didnt really know how the system works. I thought it might have been some wierdo system like Ebay and the paypal thing.

Ive heard some horror stories about that. My inlaws used to do business on ebay, but the paypal thing was such a pain that they just quit using ebay, and that was that.

No worries, I think of craigslist like a modern day newspaper add. I only deal in cash either way (buying or selling) with craigslist or newspaper adds. It eliminates that extra layer of complexity that existst with online transactions. Oh and I never go to look at anything in person alone and I ALWAYS have a concealed carry firearm on my person.  :Twocents:

Good luck to you in your future transactions.

What can I do if I buy, say, a fender off a guy who lives on the other side of the nation, and there isnt any need for me to drive all the way out there just to buy a fender. We agree to do a shipping delivery thing.

Lets say he tells me to send the money order including shipping. So I send the money order, and never get the fender?

What can I do about it then?

Lennard

::) Nothing,  that's why I only deal local. Cash and carry.

That's why I only use PayPal for that sort of thing....The couple of times its happened to me PayPal have refunded me double quick and I've just left them to fight it out with the seller. Worth the PayPal fee on a deal like that (long distance) IMO. If he has no PP account then its no go and I buy elsewhere....but over here nearly everyone does, even if its just normally for eBay!

Mr Kunkle, that is a nice looking car. I often wonder why there were more Chebbys sold when these cars are so much nicer!

John_Kunkel

Brand loyalty has nothing to do with logic, some folks keep on buying the same brand over and over again without regard to quality/appearance.

I've bought 2 Mopars off of Craigslist. The 73 Charger Rallye that I used to have "This one" and my 2000 Ram 4x4 that I still have... that one turned out to be a car dealer...but in the long run I got a pretty good deal IMO. Only Mopar I ever sold on Craigslist was that 73 Charger. I hated to get rid of it but I just wasn't driving it anymore and just didn't have time to put into it and still be able to work on my 68 from time to time.

I bought a 70 Plymouth Fury off craigslist this past summer, was a nice and pleasant transaction.  Now on the other hand, selling things on craigslist, now that can be a completely mind wrenching experience.

charger_fan_4ever

Im from canada
bought my charger off clist. For a big purchase like a car go do the deal in person.
Small parts i have bought before with using paypal.
