okay, 73 dodge charger, 318 auto with 8.25 rear end, it has new rear brakes. I just picked up an 8.75 rear end, with no brakes, everything is missing, including the backing plates. Can I use the backing plates from the 8.25 on the 8.75 rear? If so, where can I find the gaskets for the bearing retainers?

Windsor

I think the 8 1/4 and 9 1/4 share the same axle flange pattern but the 8 3/4 is different. Gaskets can be gotten at Napa.

I've seen the 8 1/4 to 8 3/4 backing plate swap done, if I remember correctly.  It was a long time ago, but I think you should be able to bolt everything right on.
Mopar forever!

I swapped from a C body 9-1/4 to an 8-3/4, no issues that I remember.
Should work fine, I'd buy a new hardware kit, cheap insurance!
