Hi everyone! I am having some work done on my 72 charger with a 340, trying to get the steering box out as the seal is out on that, and the only way we could see to get that out was pull the header. Whenever the guy pulled the header bolt out of the front it began pouring coolant out of the bolt hole, and it also did the same to the back bolt hole also. In your guys professional opinions, is something messed up on these heads, or what steps should be taken to fix this issue. Thanks for all the help guys!

With iron heads there are coolant channels in both the front and back bolt holes on both sides.  You can drain the radiator and block first, or make a mess and let this happen.

Aluminum heads block these holes so you don't have to worry.

As 303 said drain it first... or have a stud or cap screw ready, then pull the header bolt and quickly put in the headless stud.

Thank you guys a ton for the fast responses! The guy is a family friend that is doing this stuff because with school and work and music I have no time to do anything (being an adult sucks) so it got passed on to him. He was concerned that the head had a crack or something so its a huge relief to find out that it doesn't, which means money can go to the 68 rt :icon_smile_big:
