As I am into the Turbo Buicks as well as Mopars , this is going to be entertaining to watch ( if it even hits reserve ) . Kind of big deal in the Buick world , here's the background on this one ,it's the last GNX , this X was sold new in Pa , a month after sale GM found out it was the last one ( they kept #1 and #500 thinking 500 was it ) as they were supposed to stop at 500 , but ASC made 547 in total . Told dealership to offer him full money back and a brand new Reatta . Owner declined , held it for a good length of  years , then got an offer he couldn't refuse from a collector , that collector ( 2nd owner ) now running it across the block . Not surprised for not doing BJ , wants to have protection ( reserve ) if it doesn't go where he wants .

I remember these when they first come out ,  thought at the time  that's odd why use a  a V6 & not a  V8  :scratchchin:

A great back story and a great find.....but......ermmm.....not exactly a thing of beauty is she. Hopefully that had more tact than how I really wanted to word it! LOL!

Nonsense!  It's not a gorgeous car but far from hideous.  Then compare it to stuff that was put out at that era.  :eek2:

I'm far from a GM fan but I do like those Turbo Buicks and even the Monte Carlo SS'.   :D

Wish I could watch the Mecum auctions again... not a big fan of the BJ ones.

I'm with you, Bryan. In the mid '80's the GN was as good as it got for cars. I'd still like to own one someday.

That generation of GM cars gave us the last and best looking racecars since the late 60s/early 70s.

Truth!

The old, "Oh I've always wanted one.  I just had to have it.    It's my dream car"  story.

NCMopar

While I grew up in a Mopar home and think there is nothing better than mid to late 60's ChryCo, Turbo Buicks were my personal passion. I distinctly remember seeing/riding in my first GN and the first time I saw a GNX at a dealership. Over the years, I've owned three really nice GNs and, being in NC which seems to be the new spiritual home for these cars, have had the opportunity to spend a great deal of time with other passionate owners. Having a father who thought that a 440-6 could have propelled astronauts to deep space, the first time I took him for a ride in a modified GN was an experience he will never forget. He uttered "son, if we would have had cars this fast, most of us would have been dead...".

All that said, I highly doubt I'll ever own another. They suck money from your pocket like very few "normal guy" cars can and given when and from what they were built, aren't very good cars to begin with. There is no doubt that Turbo Buick's were one of the only bright spots in an other wise very dark period and the GNX was the pinnacle, but that's a lot of cheddar for a GM G-body. It's a piece of history and I get that and somebody will drop stupid money on it and put it up, good for them. Hopefully, these crazy prices will only mean good things for my friends who own "regular" GNs.

John

I've had my 87 GN since 1992 ( had a couple others as well ) , but still have that one from 92 . Glad I kept it , the prices have gone up notably over the past couple years . A few short years ago I bought an all orig 1,400 mile loaded GN , still smelled new . Basically was garage art . Sold it , and finally landed an X , which outside of Mopar ( 69 Charger ) was my other bucket list car .

I get it, must be some connection in the late 80s with TV shows with cars and the amazing GNX when it came out.  I too strayed and had a GN (actually a white 87 T) as a daily driver for about 4yrs everyday about 12 yrs ago.  It was great fun commuter car.  I have been lurking around them too and would say one of them is in my top 2 or 3 old cars I hope to get into in the next couple yrs.  Concrats on you getting one.  I was thinking hard about #327 when it was on ebay recently only when to 55 and I do not need a perfect one.  How about some photos of your X?

Not a bad investment at all. That is, for the seller.
