Most cars i have heard with them dont sound as good as open headers. If you want the performance its okay.

I'm thinking of adding some electric cutouts where you can adjust the level of sound by how long you press the button. As much as I like the idea of the open sound, I'm also hoping that I can trade the extra sound for the drone I have around 2k rpms that I can't seem to get rid of.

I'd say go for it  :2thumbs:

I have cut-outs on the Daytona...but after a 10 mile run on the freeway with them open, they won't close again until they cool down....I'm not happy with mine, need to get something different

Its takes alot of motor to sound good open header.... most i hear sound like an old farm tractor.

As over cammed as many told me mine was, it still didnt have  enough to slund good open header.

More compression helps. Here's 12.5 to 1, Headers are 2 1/8" primary / 3.5" collectors, dumped under each rocker panel. Cam used is a Racer Brown STX-24. Listen to it fire up and idle out of the pits.

I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

Do you have the link to those?  Are they cutouts or diverters?  I'm thinking of doing it to mine later on but I want total exhaust flow blocked thru the pipes and out the dumps.  With just cutouts, half the exhaust is still going out the rear pipes and doesn't sound all that great to me.  These are diverters as they close off the rear pipes and open the side up at the same time.  Otherwise I'd have to use 4 cutout motors-2 to close regular exhaust, 2 to open dumps.  https://noweeds.net/collections/universal-exhaust-diverter-systems/products/universal-exhaust-diverter-systems

Looks like maybe just cut outs.  I only see one butterfly in similar pictured

A383Wing

yes, there is only one butterfly in each unit.....like I said...I need to get something different

I have the ones from Pypes, butterfly style. That style has trouble staying closed. Pypes added a resistor to the little motor which helped a lot. Look in to the knife blade style before you pull the trigger. It seems like that would be a better choice by design.

As for the cool factor at car shows and cruise ins, nothing beats it short of open headers. I dynoed with the dumps open, and closed. Gains were minimal. If you just want to have fun go for it. Have a set of turn downs made that direct the exhaust out of the cutout, toward the ground pushing the dust on the ground out from under the car to the sides. Again just for the cool factor. You can actually watch the dust pulses from the cylinders firing if your idle is low enough.

A devilish thing, have the dumps open before you start the car. Wait till some unsuspecting target is close to the car, hold the throttle open a little and fire it up. People are fun to watch!

My friend George always opens his cutouts when starting his 572 Hemi Road Runner at car shows...  but personally I don't really want them nor care to bother.    His car sounds great... well... cuz 572.   But some engines just sound like crap with open exhaust ( ie: 350 SBC ).

I've been toying with the idea of getting a set for my 68. It has a built 440 pushing around 500 HP. I already have a set of Pypes x- pipes

Before I started it once I uncapped the cut outs  :o :o. It was so loud it was knocking shit off the shelves in my shop. I get ricers pulling up to me at lights all the time trying to bait me. Would love to be able to flip a switch and rupture their eardrums :yesnod:

Those look like they would allow most all the exhaust to flow out at the cut out instead of spliting part of it out the muffler.  How close did they match the pipe width coming off the manifolds or I assume your probably using headers.
