I would like to swap my 8 3/4 open 3.23 rear end for a Dana 60 3.54 rear end while doing my 440 4 speed swap and am not having any luck locating one on Craigslist. Are there any other mopar vehicles that would be located in a junk yard with a Dana 60 that could be swapped in my '68 Charger? Also what would be a fair price for a good working condition Dana 60?

Thanks.

There are...but they are usually truck ones and you have to have new axle tubes welded on and they don't have provisions for the pinion snubber. Originals, when I see them are usually in the $1800-$2000 range, and you may or may not be getting a good one? why not just buy a brand new one? http://www.strangeengineering.net/product/s60-rear-end-trac-lock-35-s-t-axles-leaf-spring-mounts.html/

Edit: also found this :)

I did a custom rear-end from Moser. From what I heard a new 8 3/4 may be better than an older DANA... better to confirm with some of the older guys. But basically an 8 3/4 would accelerate faster since it is a smaller mass. It would be less parasitic on any engine combination, from what I was told. You can do quite a few things when ordering a new one that is harder with an older (not to mention all brand new stuff, shiny and all). I narrowed mine, put a custom diff and axles in and such. Moser was awesome to deal with just outside of Muncie, IN.

Just an option...

The dana is superior to the 8 3/4 in all aspects. And if rotational mass worries you, you can build them lighter. My dana weighs less then my previous stock 8 3/4

Coon... did you custom build yours yourself, or did you order from Strange/Moser, etc?

Custom. Hindsight i wish i weighed it before i put it in, but i can say i picked it up assembled by myself and put it in. It was equal to my assembled 8 3/4 3rd member. When i swap rear springs i am going to weigh it.

they usually run 1800 to 2200 used dana 60 mopars.  Shipping 200 bucks I know a guy right now that has them for that much he is building my custom dana right now, but has some in his garage.  Some folks might know him by, 'Joe' has been building them secretly in his garage for mopar forever now  :icon_smile_big: hobbit

They weigh far less that 1800to 220lbs !
