1970 RT SE Sunroof Charger Restoration Complete - MCACN 16 Unveiling

Well guys,  She's finally finished (for the most part).   I unveiled her at the MCACN show this past weekend and I couldn't have been more please with the response from everyone.  She scored 974 out of 100 which was good enough for Concourse Gold, a Mopar Peoples Choice & Tim & Pam Welborn's Celebrity pick.  There were 4 70 RT SE sunroof cars there (burnt orange, yellow, orange (show car) and mine in B7 Jamaican Blue.  I have a few bugs to work out and I'm going to apply a minimal amount of undercoating in the wheel wells this winter.  The Charger pulled quite the crowd and represented the Registry well.  I had several offers on the car with 2 of them being unbelievable but I'm holding onto her for a year or so until I see what's out there to replace her with.  I've come to realize already I need another project to keep me busy but the next one won't be completed in 19 months.  It was great seeing a few of the members at the show and I look forward to Carlisle 17.  If you'd like to see any additional pictures let me know.  I'm extremely pleased with the restoration I was able to complete on this beauty. That is a beautiful ride! it was really a deluxe Charger in it's day. Contrast your $5800+ bottom line to my 68 383 HP low options Charger of $3900.

Absolutely beautiful B7 Charger with a world-class restoration performed on it!
I think I have only seen 1 other B7 Charger in person and it was a Hemicar back in the late '90's at the show in Boerne Tx. . Awesome color in person !

Mopar John.  I actually performed the restoration myself in my home little shop. My dad and brothers helped me bag and tag everything during disassembly, blast parts in the cabinet and hold things during assembly. I did all the metal work, stripping, drive train rebuilding, detailing, interior, vinyl top, stainless, dash and all other component restoration. I outsourced the normal things like the booster, wiper motor, steering box, seat belts, chrome and a local friend helped me w the 8 3/4 set up.  Other than that it was 1900 hours and 19 months of garage time. lol.  I'm ready for another I have laying around.

Quite amazing attention to detail Sir. In my humble opinion and in as much as I can tell from a few photos that is one of the finest restorations I've seen on this forum (that's with no offence to the many other beautiful restos on here!!).....and that's coming from someone whos not a big fan of the 70 front end!! Walk tall and be proud my friend ...its a great achievement. What's the next one??.....go on... say its a 69!! LOL!

I will be happy if mine is quarter as well finished...although mine is going to be a modified blown sunny day driver built on a relatively tight budget so no comparison really.....!

To do that much yourself and be right up there with the pros is more amazing!
When you take your 1900 hours which is right in line with a car having that much optional equipment on it and multiply that by a low shop rate of $60.00 per hour you saved $114,000.00!!!!!!

I appreciate it John. I enjoy bringing these cars back to life. It's different than my day to day job and relaxes me in the process. I have another 70 4 speed V code RT SE that's loaded w options in B5 to do next so I'm going to take some time off to enjoy this one this summer than her moving on that. Hey guys, I been kicking around the idea of selling my 1970 charger sunroof car it is plum crazy, power window 383 2 bbl auto on the column w/buddy seat number matching car solid rust free car from California - Nevada the only panel that has some rust is the center of the trunk , it has some pinholes that's it. I brought the car home from Nevada about 20 years ago , the last time it was on the road was 1981 I did get it running before I parked it in the garage and it's been in the corner of my garage ever since paint is faded & the vinyl top & interior is dry from the desert sun. Sorry I don't have any pics of it as it is buried in the garage but what do you guys think it's worth?

Really tough to say unless a person puts some eyeballs on the car. Paint and body are incredibly expensive. If the car does not need much for metal replacement and just needs a bit of a massage here and there, then you could start with a pretty good number. You also have a good color to start with - FC7 - any idea what the top and interior colors are? Another biggie is the sunroof - does it still function - or does it need some replacement parts? Original power sunroof parts are scarce and expensive.

You might try to gather up as much info on the car as possible and start a separate Whats it Worth thread. There are a lot of very knowledgeable individuals on this site. Also post the same Whats it Worth question over on the 1970 Charger Registry site. They are in tune with what 70 Chargers go for over there. Also - please check out the Mopar Sunroof Registry website. I would love to hear more about your 70 sunroof Charger. Just a quick glance through my database shows that I only have 2 other FC7 1970 sunroof Chargers - both R/Ts. One is a 440 six pack car, and the other is a 440 4 speed car.

Scott, thanks for the info & websites I just wanted to see what you guys here thought as I not a big computer guy. But like I said the only metal replacement that I would do is the center of the trunk pan because of the pinholes & only the center drop down part & leave the rest of the trunk alone as it has all it's original purple paint & the spot welds are perfect you can even see the original purple paint under the car. When I bought the car I bought all new cables , sliders ,switch , & a extra motor for the sunroof so that all taken care of. The vinyl top & interior is black or charcoal I think they called it I will have to check the data tag & build sheet.

Leon, like I said the car is buried in the garage & it's cold with frozen snow here in Chicago so pictures will have to wait. So just picture in your head an all original sheet metal charger with no rust or panel replacement needed except for the center truck pan that I mentioned  in faded paint & dry vinyl top most of it peeled off from the sun & a dry cracked interior

Yes - I was looking for that one at the show too. Was disappointed that it wasn't able to make it. I heard the same thing - it was slightly damaged when it was being shipped to the show.

Yea, I was hoping to see the V code car as well but I heard the same, an accident happened on the way to the show.   It actually gave me a much better spot at the show though.   

In regards to the purple car, you beat me to it by like 5 minutes.   WHen I saw the add on Dodge Charger .com years ago I jumped but just too late

I would have loved to have gotten my hands on that baby and I'm sure the restoration done out west is over the top.

Oh well, there's always others out there that surface.  We just need to find them.    Thanks for the compliments guys.
