Rant on.....Breaking news....someone has problems posting a bloody photo....what a surprise. Mister Site Owner...please click across to one or all of the other car forums I'm active on..so that's Jeep Forum (6000 posts), MBWorld or alfaowner  and see how easy it is to post up a photo with just a couple of clicks...no having to host it elsewhere and copy a link, no having to rename and reload it fifty times until it goes it.....it's all so easy. Just copy their code if you can't figure it out....they will never notice and we won't tell!......Rant off! :smilielol:

Downsize to less than 200kb,,  850 x works well. Old school, but hey the price of admission is correct!  :2thumbs:

My new phone Says it can't save my attachment. Taking too long to  download or its to big.maybe I'll figure out how to downsize it.

That's the whole point surely....it should be user friendly enough that you don't have to "figure it out". As far as I can see there are not even any instructions anywhere on the site showing the less of savvy members even how to post a pic. As far as footing the bill are you saying it was cheaper to get the code badly written than well written. True it would probably cost you to get it written better now but not at the time.....whoever signed that code off for payment in the first place is to blame imo....I would not except it like that for my company website (which to be honest is still pretty bad and looking a bit dated now but at least my customers can find their way around it)....and where is the app....I'm sure we have a member on here who could do that for next to nothing...it does not cost much. I could probably just about do it but I'm new to it so it might be a bit simplistic for the clever folks on here! I use photobucket to post on DC forum which makes it easier and you don't have to name the pics at all...but i should not need to use a third party site just to post pics......

Anyway OP..sorry for all that...back on topic gents!

The easiest option for me is to upload pictures to photobucket, copy the link from PB and past in the post here on DC.com. That way the picture is still large and it's saved on another website.

And this is why you shouldn't offer advice if you really have no idea what you're talking about... ;)

The sites you mentioned above are run by AutoGuide which in turn is owned by VerticalScope. That's over 600 web sites valued at about $321 million. I'd say they can afford to write their own forum software! On the other hand, this web site has a net value of, oh wait, it's bleeding money. The forum software in use here is "free". No one was paid to write the software and there was no "acceptance" of said software. It is available to anyone and is used fairly heavily around the web. This particular software doesn't do image resizing out of the box even with the latest version. Are there ways around it? Yes. Could larger attachments be accepted? Yes. However, users would still need to figure out how to resize on their own - just to a larger size. The renaming problem was purposely turned on because people kept uploading the exact same picture 100s of times because they couldn't bother to take the time to learn how to add a signature image. More/larger attachments and resizing puts a bigger load on storage space and bandwidth. Those cost money. Better forum software is available. It costs money. Then there's the process of converting the old forum data to the new forum so nothing gets lost. That is not trivial and takes a lot of time (and money). Sense a pattern here?

The server was upgraded earlier this year. Amazingly enough, it actually decreased in price. Unfortunately, something isn't right and I have to fiddle with it on a regular basis. Not to mention the site is under constant attack which takes me an hour or two per day to manage. I work a full time job and have a limited amount of free time so the more I spend on keeping things running is less I can spend on adding new features. This site has been around since 2005 at a cost of approximately $200 per month (not including my time). Other than selling some t-shirts and stickers (net $1,100) it's all out of my pocket. My math says that's about $26,500 and a couple thousand hours of my time if you're interested. I could have finished or bought a car instead!

I am aware that it isn't the greatest. However, in the amount of time it takes to complain you could likely learn how to work around it. Phones are particularly bad at hiding just HOW BIG the images are. A "normal" computer screen will easily display a 1024x768 pixel image once it's wrapped in the forum. Any larger and it scrolls. That's about .75 megapixels and the file size will be 200-300 kB. Most new phones take pictures that are 12-20 megapixels in size (18 megapixel photo measures 5184x3456 pixels) with a file size around 3-8 MB. Somebody, somewhere needs to resize that to put it in the forum in a way that everyone can see.

There's several threads on resizing/uploading pictures in the Help Desk section:
http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,80380.0.html

Oh look, a web page that will resize a picture:
http://www.simpleimageresizer.com/

Apple app:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/simple-resize/id327776379?mt=8

Android app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.tekunodo.simpleresize&hl=en

The Tapatalk phone app will apparently resize them automatically but I need to install a mod in the forum software to make it work.

this is the site I use  , for resizing & posting on here , its simple to use even for me   :P & i'm pretty  much a idiot at a lot of computer stuff  :icon_smile_blackeye:  ,

select the picture you want to resize , then follow instructions on page 2 , select custom size , type in either 600 or 800 , what ever that is  , & it wil work , then just re name your picture ... anything  I just normally run my fingers over the keys
