hey guys, i have a 69 daytona clone . i put a new 440 6 pack motor in it and it was fine . now today i went for a nice long ride on the highway  and when i got home i had no reverse . the trans was working fine all day .i checked the fluid and it's full . if i rev it up she moves backwards a little real slow . temp of motor was at 190 when i got home  . is there any adjustment that i can do to get reverse? or do i have a blown tranny . this really sucks and blows my mind cause  she shifts through all the forward gears just fine .

I had a cummins truck with an auto that would do same thing when cold. At first glance noticed trans fluid dipstick was over full. HMMM

Read the stick  and said "check fluid level in Neutral". Did that right after and the fluid wouldn't even touch the stick. Was about 2 qts low. Filled up and was fine.
You checked the fluid level in neutral with engine running right ?

BigBlockSam

yes i checked  the fluid in neutral while running . i just went out after the car cooled down a little and nothing . reverse feels like neutral .

I had similar issue back in 1996.  Turned out my plates burned up due to a blocked check valve.  Rubber of some sort was stuck in the ball and kept it closed.  I would put it in reverse and even floored was basically idle backing.  I think that was the only issue and even drove it a couple months like that.  John may have a way to diagnose for sure.  Could try adjusting the bands to be safe.  I think first and reverse is the same one on the inside.

Reverse is a combination of the front clutch and the rear band. The front clutch is also used in 3rd gear so, if 3rd is OK, the problem is in the rear band. The rear band is also used in manual low, so try accelerating up to about 20 mph with the shifter in "1" and throttle back to an idle...if the car has compression braking the band is OK but if it just freewheels with no engine braking, the band isn't applying.

If it moves backward but slowly, the band might just need a simple adjustment. Other possibilities are a broken band or anchor links, a link has popped out, a blown seal in the band servo or a broken servo piston....can't tell without removing the pan.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

i've been doing search on the internet , and a lot of people are saying it could be the reverse servo? i'm confused

Once you get the pan off, locate the rear band lever and pull down on it and release...if it springs back up into position you might just need a simple adjustment.
