I'm installing Autometer gauges in my 70 chal convert and will be eliminating the ammeter altogether. Do you just hook the two wires together that normally connect to the ammeter? It seems like it would be the correct thing to do but don't want to burn my freshly restored car to the ground. Anyone have any experience with this conversion?

Yeah basically that's what you should do you can use a barrier strip to do it, they make large ones that can handle all of the amperage the factory alternator can put out, check out this link at the bottom they have a article on bypassing the Ammeter. http://www.madelectrical.com/electrical-tech.shtml
