Of those of you that have to, does anyone have any problems getting a classic car with a loud exhaust , big tires or tinted glass car through a state inspection ?  In NC.. no inspection here,  so  you can almost run a stock car on the street if you have lights on it. just wondering.

It's a $10 a year sticker in NY for older cars.    Since it's not OBD2 the emissions don't matter.    My local muscle car friendly garage takes care of me.   Good tires, brakes, and the lights all work basically.

I give the kid a $20 bill for a $10 sticker.  Everybody is happy.

I live in the  Western Canadian province of Saskatchewan and thank goodness we don't have any of these emission tests.

There are no safety inspections in WA, however I find it interesting what the rat-rodder crowd gets away with. Open exhaust, lots of visual obstructions, slicks, etc. back in the day we got tickets for much, much less. I'm not surprised that muscle cars get away with this stuff now too.

Haven't had my car "safety checked" since 1986 (and that was the first it ever had)!!! When it changed hands from my Mother to myself, as Dad had signed the car over to her before he passed away in April '86. Was my car since 1979, but had been left in my fathers name for insurance purposes. No safety required ever in Ontario if the owner doesn't change.

Here in NH you need to pass a safety inspection every two years. No emissions thank god. If registered as a street rod you have a lot more leeway when it comes to lights, tire size, wipers, etc...

No Inspections in Kentucky or the Cincinnati Ohio area

I get mine inspected in PA, generally not too big of a deal since there's no emissions required on something that old.  But, I've generally kept everything else pretty legal, if it's something that would obviously fail on a newer car it likely wouldn't slide.  But, a lot of places aren't that familiar with older cars.

Here in va we have state inspection.  Classic cars usually don't have too many problems.
unapproved, and ignorant high powered headlights (HID installed in stock housings) stupid high lifted trucks, etc. Are suspect. However, you can run no muffler and as long as no leaks, you're good, but as soon as you hit the street you're subject to a ticket.
Modified spensions are allowed as long as tires don't contact frame/body/etc.
hood scoops are a biggie.

in Ontario no emission over 20 years old . safety only when selling

Very strict annual test here in the UK (the MOT) but the emissions are on a sliding scale so cars as old as 68-70 chargers will pass unless its pluming smoke. Brakes and all safety stuff like lights etc have to be passed to the same standard as a new vehicle.

This is the little beauty we have to pass each years!!!!

Its not a joke.....have a quick look.

I'm surprised that anywhere would have no emission test these days......It will happen to you as the green movement get more power.....and IMO its no bad thing....your motor is not running right if it cant pass a basic test. And as for the states with no inspection at all....well how would you feel if a car with no brakes hit one of your kids or you were in a car crash and the seat belt pulled out of the floor due to severe rust. Not all laws are bad.....

However.....even here cars older than 1st Jan 1960 have no MOT....although that would not prevent you from a ticket if you were stopped in a car that the police deemed to be in an unroadworthy or unsafe condition....which is fair enough. Most classic cars that old are owned by enthusiasts are they are in great condition and hardly used and its a tiny amount of cars (relatively) that we are talking about.

Hi Alfa and US MoparFolks,

Judging by some comments on here, its not the cars they need yearly tests.
ITS THE DRIVERS... :smilielol: :slap:
Seen lots of recent pictures of damaged Mopars, hit by trucks and FOOLS, yours included HighBank!!! :mrt:

Nearly all 50 year old cars have plenty of rust issues and most are gone now.
I suppose this is why most Folks give up on MOT tests 'every year' in the UK.
Some Testers are so bored with rustfree cars these days, that when a 50 year old car turns up, out comes the sharp screwdriver!
Not to undo screws but to make holes in the subframes and floorpans...
Yep these guys are still around, to them its their job to keep US off the road.
I used to get so worried about the MOT test, I stopped buying OLD cars!
I had an English Ford van about 5 years back that was only ten years old that had serious RUST issues.
The novelty of welding on tin-plate rockers in the freezing cold is just a memory now.

Its a weird situation now, pre 1960 cars with REAL Chassis's are much more appealing!
No MOT needed and no need for ROCKERS... :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big:

Due to strict CAR-rusting laws now, most come with at least 10 year anti-rust warranty.
There was a time in the 70's with UK Fords, they wouldn't even survive TEN YEARS!!! :angelwing:
IF A JOB's WORTH DOING, ITS WORTH DOING WELL, RIP DAD.

500Jon: we don't have rust everywhere. It's a big country and some of it is really, really dry! :D
