I am trying to find out what all this code comes with. I've read sure grip and magnum 500 with vinyl top. Maybe side stripes, and black hood stripes . I know it's spring special gimmick. My car has it on the fender tag, is it rare. If it's suppose to come with sure grip then mine was swapped out for regular. Thanks

MyMopar.com shows "Spring Special". According to a post on For B Bodies Only I found about the A14 Spring Special code on a '69 Road Runner... "Spring Special consisted of Vinyl roof, Magnum road wheels, Belt moldings, black hood paint, longitudinal stripe (pin stripe), Sure Grip rearend and different F70 tires. "

YES, "A14" was the "Spring Special" package for the Plymouth b-body
for the Road Runner it included:
V1X, VIW, V1T, or V1F - vinyl top
W21 - "ROAD" wheels
M31 - belt mouldings
V21 - hood stripes
V6W or V6R - reflective sport stripes (vinyl decal)
D91 - sure-grip
T87 (RWL) or T85 (Red Streak) F70-14 POLYGLAS Tires - the first use of RWL tires on a Mopar!!  :2thumbs:

"A15" was the same package without the vinyl top

lukedukem

ah ok, thanks guys. i had read that too, but also read that the magnums were not for sure thing.
was this A14 option rare?
and other than the codes for the top, there isn't suppose to be any more codes dictating the wheels or the sure grip on the tag?
here is my tag.
i believe someone at one time swapped the rear end on this car. when i jack up the rear and spin one tire the other spins the opposite direction. that means no to the sure grip, right?

but now i know i am suppose to have a sure grip in this car and i dont.

Can i add sure grip to this rear? it is just a matter of removing 3rd member and replacing it?

by their nature the "Spring Specials" are "uncommon" due to being a partial year spring time packaging of OPTIONs advertised as "SPECIAL" to "promote" sales
adding "A14" on the order form added more than 10% to the base price of a Road Runner hardtop

the typical RR hardtop for '69 had ~$500 worth of OPTIONS
w/A14 + D32 + R11 your car is at $417.85, what else does it have?

US spec. 1969 Road Runner hardtop Spring Specials 11.2% of production
A14 (8.7%) ~4,078
A15 (2.5%) ~1,172

by comparison:
air conditioning 10.8%
tachometer 11.5%
AM/FM 2.4%
AM w/8-track 7.1%
power disc brakes 5.1%
passenger side mirror 3.3%
power windows 0.4%
:o
power steering 50.6%

i was avoiding it... it is a roach. but it was cheap, practically free.
if the rims look familiar, they are off my charger, had to use them to get it rolling on on the trailer

Here is the story: (I do not mind listing the price i paid for these either, if it helps others who come across a situation like this)

Back in June there was a guy selling a bunch of cars off a private back road behind about 10 acres of brush. He had 6 tri 5 chevy bel airs, three challengers, two cudas, a 69 bee, a 69 roadrunner, 70 dart, 78 fire-bird, and some other cars and trucks, maybe a jeep or two. All these vehicles belong to his brother who passed in a car wreck in march. He had an add in the paper, people where flocking to his place. But most where rusty and he was selling them in package deals, not separate. this caused a lot of people to walk away. I was interested in the 69 super bee he had but the guy wouldn't separate it from the "package deal" he was trying to do, which was the super bee and some challengers, which were very rusty. i asked him a couple days later again and he said he would ask the family (estate sale) if he could separate them out and that he would probably ask 8k for the super bee. i told him that i thought it was a good deal for it.

The super bee was complete minus the engine and trans, but he had a 440 HP engine sitting that he would let go with it, missing intake. it also was in real good shape, only needing the trunk and minor floor work in front. But all the interior was there in great shape, and all glass. He also had a 69 roadrunner that was absolute garbage, he wanted 2k for it. i told him id buy it too if he sold the super bee separate, i think it was worth that in parts as it was a compete car, just needs every bit a metal available. Well, he left for work in Canada and never called me. I thought i had lost out on a great car. It was almost rust free, complete car without motor and trans, and an AC car. White guts with white paint and black vinyl top.All Glass was there and trim in good shape.
Fast forward 4 months and i have a note on my desk at work from the guy, he had my business card that i had gave him. the note said: 69 super bee - $5,500  69 roadrunner - $2,000   He was back in town and needed to get rid of them quick. I went out that day. He had no more of those Chevy cars left, just mopar stuff. That 69 bee was still there not moved, and the garbage roadrunner too. he said he would sell both cars for $7,500 and he would throw in the 440 and 4 speed i found last time i was there. (i think these went to the super bee, cause it has a 4 speed set up in it) plus he threw in a nos mint hood for the super bee that had air ram induction. So anyway, we are at $7,500 with 2 cars and extra parts.

On the way out he asked me what i thought about the 1970 dodge dart, i said it looked good. it was just a shell but it was in great shape, only rust was a bit around back window, but floors were great. had a 318 and auto from factory, but gone now, A/C as well, triple green car too. He said he'd make me a deal i couldn't refuse, 500 bucks takes it, and i did. I am not much of an A body guy, more B body mopars, but i couldn't let this go. 8 grand for 3 cars and extra parts (remember the initial price of 8k back in June just for the bee). I got the trunk open the other day on the dart and found a bunch of 340 oem parts. i think he had a 340 in it, but there's A/C stuff, oem manifolds, stuff like that.

So that's my story on how i ended up with these cars. i will begin the bee restoration after i am finished with my boat this winter. I had been looking for another car for my wife, she wanted her own to drive. It needed AC cause it gets to hot for her in the summer. she likes it, but she was really hoping for a charger. Lol, i spoiled her with my 69. I'll post some pics
