How to tell if 70 Charger is base model or 500?

Is there a definite way to tell whether a '70 is a base or 500 other than the grill and tail panel emblems?  Will the fender tag show that information?

XH29=Base Charger
XP29=Charger 500
XS29=Charger RT

Should be visible on the fender tag and also VIN tag.

Oh, didn't realize "XH" was a thing.  68-69 were all XP or XS (and XX for Daytona's & 500's), correct?

Yes XH29 is Base, XP29 is 500. Plus XH Base cars have code A73 on Fender Tag. Base 70 Chargers will not have bucket seats nor will they have upper door panel pads. Base will not have rear tail light/valance moulding either.

i had a base 70 from mexico one time, it had house carpet nailed to the floor, lag bolts holding sill panels on, house paint on the interior and body, 69 quarter panel on one side and a 69 dash with 69 vin in it. was a complete basket case

XH sure is a thing.  Mine has been a family car with bench seat since my dad ordered it.  They needed a better car than the 62 valliant because my second sister was on her way.  She arrived shortly after it was ordered.  (3 on the floor, 383 magnum, 3.23 489 sure grip and HD suspension and radio delete).  Now engine has a longer stroke.,  And I hope it isn't a basket case!!!!   :nana:

Also have pretty simple inside door panels.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

yep easiest way to tell a base model if it's not been tampered with is the bench seat, lack of upper door pads, and the 69 looking tail lights with no bezel surrounding them   :cheers:
