Thank God we have strict safety regulations here in the US at the tracks. This accident happened in Turkey over the weekend and a couple of spectators died.

they had spectators all the way down to the finish line!  that is just nutz... reminds me of when spectators get ran over at rallye car races.  They just HAVE to be at the road's edge to see the cars dont they?  :-\ ::) :icon_smile_dissapprove:

hence why the SCCA dropped it's stage rally program.  the people that took it over, Rally America, makes the spectators stay at least 10-15ft back, like it really helps...
when racing deals fall apart.....you go home, like me.

The Rallying crowds' habits were formed decades ago, back when it was a bunch of stock Mini Coopers sliding around the corners of rainy english gravel roads at 35 mph.  But the cars have sped up several times their original speeds in the last 30 years and the crowds' habits haven't changed to compensate yet.  (Hey, are YOU gonna tell the crowd at the next Charlotte 500 that they shouldn't sit anywhere in the first 20 rows from now on because the cars are going 200 mph?)

And Rallys are done on miles & miles of deserted roads anyway, half of which is public roads with privately-owned land on all sides.  In many cases they couldn't police that much area if they tried.
