Fan clutch question

I looked at my build sheet again, it says 7 blade fan with spacer. So i checked my fan and it is a 5 blade without clutch and ca 2" spacer! On a hot summer day and low speed cruising the temperature goes a bit high..
The radiator is original 22"

I got a 7 blade fan with clutch, should i mount this? With or without clutch? With clutch there is no room for the spacer.

Im asking because i want it as much original i can.

Thanks

when using the clutch, NO spacer is used. The spacer is for a direct drive fan.

If you want to keep it more original bypass the clutch and use a spacer.  Do you have a shroud?  If so approx. half the fan should be inside the shroud, just not any closer to the radiator then 1 inch.  If this requires more than 2 inches on the spacer you can combine spacers but don't exceed three inches.   Getting that 7 blade should help the high temp at idle issue.

7 blade clutch fans look original enough I would chose the peace of mind of adequate cooling over absolutely original. Agree with using a shroud also.

Could you clear up some confusion I have -  If I went with a 7 blade clutch fan can I use this with a spacer and no clutch as a belt driven fan or would I have to buy a clutch?  I've heard most suggest the non thermal.

clutch fan is for a clutch, direct fan is for spacer,  if you get a clutch fan get a HD thermostatic clutch, 2747 Hayden is the regular length, 2947 is shorter for radiator clearance. If you have a 7 blade & clutch put it on the car  :shruggy:

A clutch style fan will not bolt directly to the water pump with only a spacer. The mounting hole and pattern are designed to mate with the fan side of the clutch only, which is much larger. The shaft side of the clutch is designed to mate with the water pump, which is much smaller Similarly, you cannot use a direct drive fan on a clutch for the same mis-matched bolt pattern reason.

I tend to use thermostatic clutches myself.
