To my amateur eyes, it looks legit.

Didn't that car go through one of the auctions within the past year or so?

1 of 1 out of Hamtrack, how many came out of St. Louis? Listing states 8 3/4 when it has a Dana 60 in it. Be nice if it had a broadcast sheet, to see if it was a J55 car as it's COMPLETLY undercoated, no hood pad. Nice looking car !  :2thumbs:

same owner in Indiana I believe, probably there on consignment (unless the dealer purchased it)?

Forgive me if I'm wrong but shouldn't the entire vin be stamped on the block? I have the original 383 for my 69 and it has the entire vin on it....

birdsandbees

Interesting. My '69 Bee engine has the same style stamping on it as does my A833 trans (just the year and 6 digits of VIN) Meanwhile a '69 Plymouth RRunner A833 that I have has the full dash VIN stamped in it. Guess Dodge was a bit lazier on stampings!

"Early" 69s got the full VIN.
"Late" got a partial VIN.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

I'm sure they had more than one font stamp, but that said all the 4's on my stampings are closed at the top. My 383 magnum, A833 and my spare A833 out of a Road Runner.

Edited to remove pictures.. realized probably not the best to help the deceptors.

BTW my Bee was mfg in Feb of '69, wouldn't think that was a "late" mfg date.

hemigeno

The Fender Tag calls out A36 "Performance" Axle Package (8-3/4" 3.55 SureGrip), not the "Super Performance" A32 w/ the 4.10 Dana.  Not a huge deal that the axle has been swapped, but it's not original to the car.

I went back and read some of the older threads about this car, and even as recent as 2015 they didn't make any mention of this car having a numbers-matching drivetrain even though the car was being peddled for sale at the time.  Apart from the incorrect font already pointed out, there are two other tell-tale signs that the VIN pad has been cut / wiped clean and re-stamped.  The engine compartment looks similar to the older threads, so it's possible that an earlier seller understood that the VIN stamping wasn't kosher and didn't represent the car as numbers-matching.  That's not the case now, apparently   :rotz:

It's still a legit HemiCharger in a very cool color... just not a numbers-matching car as is being advertised.

I still remember the 1995 MoparMuscle burnout cover photo of this car.  That issue stayed on the top of my pile for many years.  Thanks for digging it up and posting it (back in 2014), TanTop... here it is again:

440 stick cars did not get torque boxes, but did get a Dana60... at least in 1969.  Some other model years might be different.

It was inconsistent which cars got torque boxing.  Hemi cars got them more than anything else, but it seems like you find it on 440/4spds as much as Hemi/automatics.  The factory definitely though the manual trans was an aggravating factor in the body twisting.

The only other cars that I've seen with them were convertibles.

charge69

Yep, I have to agree. Never seen them on anything but Hemicars and convertibles.

Anyone here got a 440-4spd car, Dodge or Plymouth, with torque boxes from the factory?  Please give us a picture if you have one.

Mike DC

Well yeah, they were obviously on convertibles.  That's what the factory invented them for originally.  Putting them on hi-powered hardtop cars was the secondary idea.

I do recall them as being used on convertibles at the time but what I don't recall is that they were helpful to the convertibles to reduce the additional body flex that came from the top being missing.  They are points of support for the springs but the frame flexing (as a long piece) is minimally affected by the boxing at one small point.
What I don't get is why It was nixed from -all aside the hemi and convertables?  --Testing must have shown a practical/dollar value of some kind. :shruggy:

Mike DC

With convertibles, Chrysler was probably ready to utilize any low-cost stiffness gains they could get, minimally effective or not.

As for the whole fleet - you do find torque-box-type reinforcements on the 73-up B-bodies.  And shock-tower-to-firewall bracing outside the inner fenderwells.  And the lower rad support is boxed up.    It's all the stuff we do on the earlier cars with aftermarket parts.

I find it interesting that the factory was doing all that stuff by the mid-70s but still NOT doing the first thing we always start with - subframe connectors.
