Fuel Filler Locking Cap?

I was just looking at a Charger up for auction on eBay, and noticed this picture showing a locking cap in the fuel filler. My Charger does not have one of these. Were these a factory thing, or an aftermarket thing? Where can I get one?

It was an option. Not sure if they are repo'd, but I have sen a few used ones on ebay.

My 70 /6 Charger has one on it.  I think it was a dealer add on as well as a factory option.  They are pricy on ebay if you need one (I've seen them up to $200+)......

No one reproduces them at this moment (as far as I know). I had one on my first Charger and assumed they all did - I was wrong. I could use 3 if anyone finds them at a good price.

You'll have to forgive me, the search feature didn't find anything about them, so I figured I'd ask :'(. I hate rehashing the same questions too, so I always search before I ask. Alas, it's one of those things that is unavoidable on forums.

Theres nothing to forgive. You needed an answer to your question and most of the members here try to help. Others tend to forget from time to time what this forum is all about.

I have one for my charger and I can not stand to use it.  It gets stuck all the time and it is hard to get it out once you lock it.

Plumcrazy

My Charger had one. I quit using it because it's a pain to use. Unless you really feel you need it I wouldn't bother with one. :Twocents:

That picture is Chris's or ''6T9_CHARGER_RT'' car on ebay      :'( :'( :'( :'(   not a good thing for him.

Out of oh 15-20 68's I have owned only my wifes 68 RT in the garage came with one.
Its on your fender tag as an option and you don't see many.

There is a guy on ebay that is still selling NOS units $125 to 150 now adays, its Frank again.

Once you get the filler tube neck just right they are not to hard to get in or out, but
if you don't do some work on the inside lip they can be a pain.

What I meant is it is surprizing how such a little no nothing part makes guys what to know about it

Charger Aficionado

I'm sure Glad I got one...   My bid went up to 130ish, but that was before Frank started selling them...

Anyway...   People here are stealing gas like crazy.   My bud Marshal cought someone trying to get into the cap behind his plate, and I was there...   I chased them down in that Plum Crazy '70 cut them off "Dukes Style", and almost caught the van on foot but I was in flip-flops.   Just last week, My Chebby work-truck had one tank FULL, next AM it was EMPTY.  I HOPE I catch someone.  Now I need to get locking caps for everything.

ChargerHound69

You know just the other day, I could have swore I had Half a tank in my truck when I got home, but when I left the next day it was on E.  Maybe I need to get a locking gas cap for it.

8WHEELER

Actualy I run one in every Charger I have, but not becuase of stealing gas. My brother in law had a
guy dump sugar into his gas tank!!!! but the worst part was it was on his truck that had three tanks
and he did not no witch tank he was running on, he had just bought it and there was no
indication on the tank levers to tell him witch was witch, so he had to pull all three tanks    :rotz:

I'm glad I got one off of an incredibly generous person on this website.   Be prepared to shell out big bucks for one if you manage to see one on E-Bay.   They are well worth the price paid- if nothing else, for the "oooooh" factor.   Many don't have one and are amazed when they see them.

Good luck,

The sad thing is I bought mine brand new at the dealership in 1969 for $4.00

69pistolgripRT

I love mine. I have had no problems at all. I always worry about vandalism and this affords a little peice of mind. I always leave my key in the lock after I take it out to ensure that I don't drive off without it.

Don't ask why I had to start that policy. :cussing:

I ran out of gas twice going to work. After that I too had to lock my tank. But that was years ago.
