It wouldn't be an issue with smaller tires BUT on the left side the body just clears the tire by 1/4 in... On the right side you can put your fingers between the body and tire. Does anybody else have the same problem or a remedy for it ??

The car may have been wrecked at some time. Years back, to get a car to align right, shops would put shim plates between the leaf spring hanger and the body to "square" the axle to the bent chassis.

These car had very poor tolerances by today's standards.   Most of the rear ends don't sit centered under the car.   Mine is offset and my car has never been wrecked. (I have done bodywork in the past so I know how to tell.  When it was blasted, my car had all original sheet metal and no signs of any collision.)

x2. You can work around it some by offsetting the front eye bushings. You can gain .25" to .375".

you need to measure & find where the difference is, check from frame rail to outer 1/4 edge 1st .

I have owned the car since new so I can rule out it being hit in the rear and I am going to have to do some measuring to prove where the rear sets.  My idea is that the brackets that are welded to the rear end  aren't on center. If they are off .25 to one side you are going to see  .50 total difference side to side and thats about what I have so I am thinking I may have to move the hole that the spring bolt goes into about 3/16 in. to the left as it is the side thats tight. When we did the front end alignment the thrust angle was square to the body so the rear end  is not at an angle but it didn't pick up the side to side offset. I was wondering if anyone else ran into that problem..
